Does anyone know how good or bad aviation gas is.A few of my friends are running it in their normally aspirated cars with 11 to 1 compression with good results.I can get it for 2.00 a gallon but would like to know if anyone has used it with good results or bad.Bruce

Friends of mine use to run it and thought it was fine but later found they ran a lot faster with race gas..

Blair went racing at a 2 day event and on Sat he was running 12.6's which was normal for the car. He cruised all night and used up the av gas so on Sunday he bought race gas and the car went 12.2.. He always swore that it wouldn't make any difference...lol.. His brother had a similar experience with the switch..

After you figure in the cost of 02 sensors, it isn't quite as cheap as you think.

100LL avgas does have way more octane than regular pump gas. It will also eat your O2 sensors just as quickly as C16 racegas. I have also found that my car spools slower on the avgas than it does on C16 or 94 octane pump gas as well. Regardless, it does allow you to run more boost and timing than pump gas will.

Thanks for the replys everybody.I found out with a Thrasher chip I can unplug the 02 sensor and the car will run in open loop without seting a code.It will run at part throttle from what is in its memory before the 02 was disconnected.I have been running Sunoco 94,xylene,and alcohol injection but the alcohol really makes me rich up to 65 mph.So I am going to try race gas.The only bad thing is I will not be able to monitor 02's now.Bruce

I was told that aviation gas was oxygenated. Oxygen is put in to it to compensate for altitude. They told me I was better off running Cam 2. But this was in my ATC 350x. I never pursued it to find out if it was true.

I run 107 LL av gas in my car and I like it, it costs me $2.50 a gal.and I can run a ton more boost , I went from 15# with no knock on 91, to 22# with no knock on the 107.

As far as eating my o sensor it does do that but I use the Bosch sensor and if you get it a Parts America it has a lifetime warrenty so I just trade it in

Larry, I hate to sound like a parent, but do you think it's fair to purposely and knowingly destroy the O2 sensors with AV gas, and expect the manufacturer to pay for your deliberate abuse of their perfectly good product? It may only be a drop in the bucket, but keep in mind that if their costs go up, then our costs at the register go up too. I guess I'm speaking in Bosch's defense, because they pay my company good money for our services.
However, I'm also a strong advocate of honesty. If I destroy something on my own, I don't expect others to pay for my mistakes... Just some food for thought...
