How is this adjustment made.I know for ford 9" uses a speacial wrench

Shims are used to set the Pinion depth. and shims are on the carrier as well.

Thanks, could i just use the same shims to acheive the same backlash depth.
Or would it be proper to just put new ones in

Jimski I have in stalled several sets of 7.5 gears in S10 and Iroc camaros almost always used the original depthshim from the pinion and usually the ring gears were very close but some times the ring gears got changed depending. On the car but alot of times they will drop in with very little problems.Just get a shim kit in case you need them it should not be off real far. Mike

That's right 99.9% of the time the stock factory shim under the pinion bearing will swap right over and the depth will be right.

Thanks for the replys,I will be changeing out the entire guts ring gear and all.
putting in 342 ring gear and eaton posi.
This will be my first time ever working on a rear so i am trying to gather as much info as possible here so i dont screw up 700 dollars worth of parts.
are there some other things i should consider?
