I was driving my 87GN today and all of a sudden my check engine light was flashing very very fast and my scanmaster would not read or display anything! I was only able to get the car up 30 mph to get it home. Has anyone experienced this before?

Thanks
George

This can be a number of things. Before the ECM replacement do these items first. Remove the ECM. Remove the chip. Check the ECM wiring harness for any corrosion. Same with the ECM. Check for any corrosion. If you have any, clean all contacts, all conectors. Make sure they are very clean. reinstall your chip and try it. Let us know. Now after thaat chack the grounds behind the passenger cylinder head. If any one of these breaks you can get the same issue. If all of this fails, then see if you can borrow a friends ECM to test with.

It sounds very much like your ECM went into 'Limp' mode, which it's designed to do under certain circumstances. The EPROM that controls limp mode is the smaller, black PROM near the bottom of the ECM.

I agree w/ machinegun. Borrow one from your buddy's car. 10 minute troubleshoot.

g'luck.

quickwrench, kind of off the subject but what drag radials are you using? Brand and size?

BFG 275/50/15. That run was in 1997 or 1998. I haven't tried any of the new ones or different brands.

I started the car up today and the scanmaster was reading normal and the flashing of the check engine light went away. i did get a code 51 which is a bad prom. I do have a spare so i'll start with that.

Thanks for the replies!
George
