i got a new transmission with about 400 miles on it. after a 25 mile drive got close to home and got on it a little the whole car was shaking and the it seemd to be slipping. i pulled in the driveway it tried putting it in gear again. it wouldnt move unless i reved it up a little then id slam into gear and start shaking does this sound like a converter or something in the trans?

It sounds more like a transmission problem to me, but I'm no expert.

If the tranny was done by a good board vendor I'd then suspect a converter if it was used and not of great quality.

I would post more details as to what tranny, what converter, and new used info. age, etc. so we can all make educated guesses.

the trans was built by a vendor its a stage2 the torque converter was given to me by a friend of ine it is a pro torque 2800 stall he had in his car that worked fine i dont know how old it is though im guessing the converter is the problem i was just wondering if the shaking is a common syptom of the converter failing i have the trans and converter out now is there any way i can mess with the converter to see if it is the problem?or maybe take it somewhere to be tested?

I have seen some converters come apart and the pieces "fall" to one spot and it becomes an imbalance causing a vibration. But as for the slamming into gear, could be the stator inside slipping and then grabbing when you rev it up. Either way, the converter/trans has to come out. Pressure check would help to see if you have a pump problem or internal leakage for the slipping problem.

who built the trans, did you contact them to see what they had to say

this just happened friday so im waiting for a reply from the builder. i took the trans out and the fluid looks like it just came out of the bottle. im just hoping i can buy a converter and be done with it. i dont want to put the trans back in working improperly. is there any way a converter can be tested trans also out of the car maybe a dyno or something
