ok, tonight i started it put it into reverse and all i hear is like something is banging around like rotating and hitting something which i think is the oil pan:( poped it back into drive and it goes away but it noticible under a little acceleration. I fear it might be a thrown rod. But it still starts up ok and runs but that sound is now constant. We had it towed back to our house. Any ideas where to start? I dont plan on doing the work myself b/c i lack the tools to tear an engine down.

ditto

if you have a working engine with that sound, i'm sure it's just flexplate cover.

God i hope so, it seems to run ok but the sound is really loud. It does seem like something is rotating and hittting something.
Sorry trying to describe it best i can. will check the flexplate.
Thanks, any other ideas? And what would it be doing if it was a rod?

No, I'm thinking of cracked flexplate... sometimes they make more noise in reverse than drive or vice versa... something about the thrust loads changing?

Rods dont run very long when making that noise, it's something external to the engine (I hope)
