Assemblying a new mill but I am questioning one thing prior to torquing balancer bolt, with the crank timing gear, oil slinger and the balancer on,the nose of the crank is still like 3/32 " countersunk into the balancer before any heavy loading on the bolt is applied. The gear and the slinger are in the correct orientation,is this normal.....I am thinking that applying 220 ft/lbs of torque would load up the timing gear onto the crank journal and even possibly split it . What are your experiences ?

Thats normal from what i remember. Make sure that bolt is tight. I have seen 3 cars in the last 10 years with loose balancer bolts. I have never broken the crank gear and have installed a lot of balancer bolts.
