At the 23rd WWII Weekend at the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum in Reading PA.
I've been to all 23!
All these planes (and many more -a B-17, 3 - B-25's +) fly.
If FiFi makes it next year, my brother and I are going!

I use to get dragged to Oshgosh every year. Wasn't until my teen years I realized how cool some of it was. I even shook Pappy Boington's hand. The shit some people will fly. We had a flutter bug, mid wing with a 65 HP. continental.
 
Any P-38's?

I should note, in a couple years, the Museum should be finished with its restoration of a P-61 "Black Widow" night fighter that it rescued from a mountaintop in New Guinea. One of only 4 known to exist, it will be the only one to actually fly.
 
Oh, God, I just get tears in my eyes when I looked at the pictures.......those warbirds just give me goosebumps..............take it from me, John...........GO ON A RIDE in one of them....You'll never forget it and will just be absolutely ecstatic! Sure, expensive as hell, but how many times do you get to fly around in one of those wonderful planes?

I paid to fly in a B-25 Mitchell bomber a few years ago, the same plane my late Dad flew in 'WWII. Yes, I cried like a little girl the whole time, but the experience still brings back such great feelings......whole time I was in the plane I couldn't believe young guys went to war in these things, just thin aluminum skins, aluminum bracing, no protection at all from guns and flak.....I sat in the rear section of the B-25 (best place to be) right where the two .50 cal machine guns still were! Plus I could crawl back to the rear gunner position also.....I took my Dad's silver wings and his dog tags with me when I went, and I'm getting so very misty eyed right now even talking about it............but, it was one of the most wonderful event I've ever done in my life......all those years growing up hearing Dad's stories on his flying of the B-25, B-26, P-38, Stearmans, AT6 trainers P-61s and finally got to really appreciate what he, and all the other super brave, courageous young guys did back then......It gave me a very, very deep sense of appreciation for all of the WWII veterans of their unselfish sacrifice....................and here I was flying up in the B-25 and no one was shooting at us......I could touch both sides of the fuselage in my sitting position on take off......I could bend the aluminum skin with no problem at all, just by pushing it.......think of being up 25,000 feet in that damn thing with flak, ground fire and machine guns from enemy planes......My God! What a thing to experience!

Go, John, Go.....hell with the high price.......it's high because the pilots told me they have to pay a lot for the aviation fuel.....back then it costs them $1500 in aviation fuel for just 30 minutes of flight time.....and here I tried to talk Dad into buying a B-25 back in 1969......wanted to take it to the prom! No wonder Dad thought I belonged in the nut house!!!!:eek:

Get on one of those planes!!! Pronto! You'll never be the same afterwards......trust me!

FIFI came to Birmingham when I was in college as I recall The B-29's oil consumption was 4-6 gallons/hour. Fuel was 100+ so you can see why it's lots of $'s.

On the other hand leaking 4-6 gallons of oil/hour It's as close to a flying buick as you'll get
