bellhousing crack

I'm getting ready to send the trans out to David Husek for rebuild and noticed a past repair done on the bellhousing. Is this a common area to crack and what would cause it? Plans for the car is to take it into the mid or low 11s...so I hope this will hold up. Thoughts?

That's not normal, it was probably dropped at some point. Looks like a decent weld job.

Yea it does look like decent job, just ask Dave but it looks to be a good fix,someone dropped it at some point.

Nope, just the one side. I'm including some high res pics showing the crack from the inside. It doesn't appear to go all the way up to the top section of the bellhousing, so I'm guessing the crack formed, but the piece didn't come completely separated from the bellhousing.

Still needs to be ground out and welded.

Worst case scenario, get an sfi bell housing but like others have mentioned, it looks like a good weld.
