Bent pushrod broken rocker.

While I was taking apart the engine to change a bad headgasket I noticed that there was a badly bent pushrod on the opposite head. I pulled that valve cover and the rocker was loose. The red stud holding to the arm was snapped in two. They are stock roller rockers and that arm in particular was closer to the number 5 cyl instead of 3 like it's supposed to be. What would cause this to happen and if I just replaced them would it happen again?

Well, the stock rockers are not rollers, they are shaft mounted. I had a nylon rocker retainer snap once and bend a pushrod. Fortunatly it did not hurt anything. I replaced all the retainers, pushrods and it has been fine ever since.

You definately have roller rockers & if a pushrod bent & heads are off along with intake anyways you better take a look to see why it bent. Maybe a fluke but I doubt it.

Maybe, as in the cam is flat, the p rod jumped out of the cup, and jammed the rocker, resulting in the breakage????
