I have a nice set of purdy GTA redone by Gbody in 06. Between the purchase price and the refurbing I have $2k in them:eek: Anyways 3 are bent. I had them on the wheel balancer at work today. I knew one was bent but now 3... They all balance out for what it's worth.

My question is this. These wheels were 2 fronts and 2 rears, all 4 have been cut and welded and the backspace changed. I have a set of Repros from classis industries on the White T. They are 11 years old and have many.many miles on the same roads here in VA. In fact they are on my wifes DD. Are the cut and welding wheel easier to bend VS the 1 peice style? I am just trying figure out what went on here. No curb checks ever and maybe 12k on them at the most. They still look fabulous.

I am gonna price out some local shops and see how much the true them. If it's $300 a wheel I will buy another set from Classic Industries. Anybody had any similar experiences with the GTA's bending? I can feel the worst one it's on the RR,and if I wasn't such a fanatic I probably would not know what it is.
I have one of the bent ones on the RF and the steering wheel has no shake.
2 wobble on the inside and the worst inside and out.

Is your whole rim bent/out of round, or is it just part of the lip? I had the 17" TTII's on the front of the elky at a shop two weeks ago to have the bends in the lips fixed on them. Place charged $75 a rim to straighten and polish out any tool marks left behind. Also took him 3 pairs of GTA "fronts" to strip/polish the lips. I figured the only reason the TTII's were bent were from the very small sidewall (225/45/17) tires, one of the GTAs also had a slight bend. Charging me $75 each to make the GTAs look better than new. I have hit some pretty bad pot holes with the GTAs (Stock) and have never bent them, the one that is bent was bent when I purchased it. Maybe the aluminum on the barrels of the custom ones aren't as thick/strong as the originals?

I have 2 that the inner lip has some wobble. The other the entire outside(inner and outter) wobble pretty bad. Thats' what I was thinking about the thickness of the aluminum.

I don't think that the wheels you have are easier to bend than the ones on your wife's car...You probably were less lucky than her, that's all... Also, maybe they've been like that for a while and you did not notice it until now, especially if you say there's no shake in the steering wheel...If they're for a daily driver, I'd leave them that way since you're likely to hit more potholes in the future...

Bent Wheels

It does not take alot to bend a wheel whether its steel or aluminum, also depends on tire pressure and speed you hit the pot holes.
