Just wondering what everyone's opinion is on the Best After Market alarms are for our cars? Im looking for something of Good/Best Quality and has the popular functions such as Remote locks, trunk release, remote alarm (lets you know when your alarms is going off) ect..... Whats currently the best offered?

I currently have NO anti theft devices on my car    and Need to get something ASAP

Thanks in Advance

I have a "Python" installed. My car has manual locks and windows so no features like that are involved in my remote, but it does have remote start and a turbo timer function, so it's pretty nice. It was somewhere around $500 installed if I remember correctly. Obviously if you have power locks you can incorporate that into the system. Comes with the little beeper keychain to let you know if something is happening to the car.

your garage if somebody wants it there going to take it they are very easy to steal i know it sucks but that the price we pay for driving what we drive.

Fortunately I can/will install it myself, dont want anyone else knowing whats what. Dont really need the remote start ect... but remote locks ect are nice to have. That and the remote warning system. Never had an alarm on any of my cars but got TOOOOOOOO much money into this one now that I gotta try to protect it somehow.

SMITH&WESSON thats the best alarm. the cops dont think so:confused: . My friends alarm rings his cell phone when its even tampered with .I dont know what kind it is . he worked at a stereo shop when he got it.

...i bought some super cheap one off of ebay for 40 dollars...has remote start , locks , trunk release...all the bells and whistles...havent installed it yet so will see how it is...although other posters are right an alarm wont stop someone from stealing the car...what might or at least make it a real hassle for them is that red metal steering column lock built for gns...its a sqare boxy metal piece with a hinge that folds over the complete column and has a couple holes built in for the turn signal lever and the key way...cameras in the shop or i would take a pic...i think they are about 100-150...get it appraised ...buy insurance so you can sleep at night...nothing worse than chaining a harley to your leg everynight cuz someone might steal it...noah.

i do mobile electronics for a living, and its better than no system at all.99% of the time if a thief sees the led light blinking, they will move on to the next car that doesnt have an alarm.remember,if they really want the the car, they will get it if you dont take all the precausions you can.

as in ANY purchase,go with a brand that youve heard of,do not go with something thats backed by a company "on wheels".

i sell OMEGA products,ie- excalibur,freedom,mars,etc.
also dei; viper,python,cliffard,etc.

they have a lifetime warranty, two way keyfobs, etc. check with local bussiness and see what they carry, see what their past customers say about the product, service,or any problems.deal local so you wont have to deal with someone over the phone on any posssible warrany issues.

Alarms are deterents. They will not guarantee that the car wont be stolen , but will deter most from actually attempting it.. An alarm along with some common sense decisions will keep you car safe for a long time.

turbo timer

what is a turbo timer function ?

thanks jay

Turbo-timer function allows you to park the car, take the keys with you, lock the vehicle, but the engine will remain running for a set amount of time before turning off by itself. Allows the turbo to cool down without requiring you to sit in the car waiting to shut it off.

To dissipate and stabilze the heat in the turbocharger, most manufacturers recommend that a car be idled for a period of time after moderate to hard driving to allow the oil/water to take heat out of the turbocharger.

Failure to reduce the temperature of the turbo could result in the oil around the shaft "coking". Coking is basically the baking of oil, turning it into a hard substance that could plug your oil lines and cause oil "starvation", preventing proper cooling of your turbocharger and reducing it's operating lifespan.

I've recently purchased an '87 GN. I installed an Autopage RS-727 security system in it. I put pins in both the hood and trunk. I also installed the power door locks, remote trunk and domelight survelliance options along with the standard flashing lights, shock sensor, dual LEDs (one on each side of the door) ignition disable, etc... I was going to install window roll-up modules to make the power windows roll up and down with the remote, but the windows in the GNs are too slow and they draw too much current, so I opted not to. I didn't install the factory siren since I didn't want to take away from the look of the original engine compartment so I used relays to make it honk the factory horn as the siren when the alarm is triggered so everything looks stock. The alarm also has a remote start and turbo timer feature, which I did not use. It also has an LED display on the remote to let you know when your alarm is going off and what caused it to trigger, so it's more of a mini paging system. As far as the turbo timer, I've installed an HKS Type-1 Auto Turbo Timer which also displays your 60ft, 0-60 MPH, 1/8 mi, and 1/4 mi. times.

I've been known to pull the wire to the fuel pump . Just for a little piece of mind. Car will start, run for about 2 seconds and die....and won't start agin. It MIGHT deter someone not savy enough to figure it out.

Is anyone using a theft retreival system these days like LoJak??

Yes, I will be getting a LoJack system installed in my GN next week. The vehicle has an alarm and a fuel cut-off switch and it has full coverage insurance, but I just want the LoJack so if an idiot does somehow manage to steal the car, they will eventually get caught. Also, even if you have an alarm and any other theft deterrents installed, you will not have time to activate any of them if somebody creeps up on you and carjacks you at gunpoint. At this time, they will have your car running with the keys and any valuables you may have in the car as well as your home address on the registration card you may have in your vehicle or insurance card. Not to mention they will have your car keys and more than likely... your house keys.

LowJack is worthless to you and I. Living in southern California if someone takes a vehicle with a low jack, good luck. Those cars head straight south of the border and youll never see them again as police on this side of the border can not travel down there to recover vehicles. Ask any CHP about lowjacks, they might tell you the same :) (my wife's a cop) Not to mention we (Mercedes Benz) have lowjack installed in all our new cars (reduces insurance for the company plus its easier to sell once they are pre-installed) and Ive seen how they install the lowjack system. All in the same place, all wired the same by 18-22 year old's...... its not that hard to by-pass:eek: If you really want something like that, they have numrous lowjack type alarms that actualy use diferent ways to contact you (ie email, cell phone, pager, wife's phone) when your car is moved. Some also include a tracking feature via there website to track where your vehicle is at in North America. I would rather track down my own vehicle then have the cops "looking" for it!

I just looked into one today that offers All the extras , ie... remote lock, trunk, 2 way paging, turbo timer, dual shock ect.... that ALSO has an optional GPS tracking system the YOU can log onto their website and locate your own car, tells you where its located, direction its headed, speed ect.... Its quit pricey tho $400 option plus $100 a year and if you have to actually use it there a connection charge as well. It was a Clifford alarm.
