I like the original ATRs if you can find a set are you going to run a 3 bolt turbo or 4 bolt turbo? Now days it's a hit or miss with the China made ones but TA makes decent headers.

ATR Stage 2 headers would be good if you can find them..

Otherwise I would agree with Prasad, TA race headers.

I would definitely run a 4 bolt turbo with that set up.

What's the difference between the t/a 3 bolt and 4 bolt headers other than the flange? Is there any other difference ?

.

I never used a TA headers but my friends have and they are good for the money. ATR headers, the true four bolt headers have a rectangular collector port entering into the flange to match the four bolt housing which also has a rectangular opening. You will make more power with a four bolt housing for sure. The three bolt housing has a round collector to enter the round port on the flange/ exhaust housing.

Reggie,
He stated that he has GN1 heads thus he can only use production style headers so he is stuck with TA or old ATRs!

I have a set of t/a 3 bolt headers and a set of atr 4 bolt headers. I guess I should restate the question as to the difference between the t/a 4 bolt and the atr 4 bolt headers. Which design is better ? Are the t/a 4 bolt the same log type collector as their 3 bolt but with a rectangular flange? Just have not seen the t/a 4 bolt headers to compare to. Joel

Well I am not an expert in headers but I will take stab at it. The TA headers are similar to stock style..... The cross over pipe comes over from the driver side to the rear of the passenger side header just like the stock style. The ATR style headers; the cross over pipe comes from the driver side to passenger side and the exhaust from the driver side only meet at the collector as though the exhaust from both banks only meets before it enters the turbo where the stock style and TA style they both meet in the rear side of the passenger header and flow to the collector together with in the header it self. Now does this cause more back pressure or turbulence on the passenger side header? I am not an expert in physics to analyze the flow of exhaust and take all the factors like back pressure and things like that into calculation but to me the ATR seems like a better design but who knows, I could be wrong!

I did find some stage 2 headers on white racing page. I believe i have atr headers now. the 3 bolt flange was taken off and a 4 bolt flange was welded on. Street Performance in Illinois did the car. Now im trying to make changes and go faster starting with this motor.

In response to op....If you are running production style heads you can not use stage 2 headers totally different exhaust ports on stage 2 heads.

As long as you have stage II heads on the car you can use Stage II headers other wise they are useless. There is a big difference in Stage II headers vs Production style headers You have to get production style headers like the stock GNs. The TA heads, GN1 heads they all use production style headers.

Thanks prasad for the explanation. I was wondering if there was any definitively tested benefits or disadvantages to one style vs other.

To op .... Correct stage 2 headers will not work on gn1 heads since these are production style heads.

I don't know if I would describe needing to use T/A headers as being "stuck".:p

I sure like mine.........

LOL!!!!! sorry...let me rephrase that, he only has the option to use TA , ATR or any other production style headers that are available !
