What is the best new turbo to get for a totally unopened stock longblock with a stock converter? thinking new billet turbos.

go w/a 6057 billet wheel turbo.and you will be driving around w/ a sh*t eaten grin all summer long!

Thanks-do you have one on your car? If so who has the best deals on them? Im waiting to hear how louie lopez likes his.

I have refrained from giving my opinion on the turbo just yet. The weather around here is awefull. Its been in the high 90's with 95% humidity(heat index near 100 deg) every day I have tested the car.

So far I like it. I believe spool up can still be better. I have been able to run up to 20 PSI in 1st gear with no knock and pump gas. Its very strong. Spool up and power will certainly be much better on a day with reasonable weather conditions. Right now its set at 17 psi.

I would say depends on the rest of the combo... Converter, inj, and chip are important factors...

I recently went through getting another turbo for my car, and from talking with board members and vendors it seems if your running the stock converter and mild mods the best choices are a ta49, te44, or 5857.

Im planning on stock converter, extreme extender chip& translator, with 60 lb injectors.,3" downpipe,2.5 ss exhaust

60 inj are alot of fuel for a ta49, no heads, etc. 42.5inj will take you mid 11's with a ta49, 44 and ported heads, intercooler, etc

I have no intension on going with a old school 44/49 turbo-i mentioned new as in billet wheel-thanks

Well when you purchase the turbo get a converter at the same time. From what iv read even the 44's and 49's should have one but you can get away without one with little lag. Anything bigger you need a converter.

Thanks-i was hoping with the claims of the lower end spool up i could get away with a stock converter, if i have to change the converter then maybe id go for something alittle larger like a 6265 or 6765.

5857 DUAL bb thing must be insane quick spool....

i'd do the converter at the same time and go bigger.

if you really wanna leave everything stock, 5857 will be hard to beat.
same size as a 49 with a lighter wheel to spool.

if you're not dead set on a billet wheel....
some guys are running the gt6131dbb on a stock tc with few complaints.
you can also get a ball bearing te44

Its too bad you dont want to go with proven parts. The small billet BB turbos are a waste of $ in your application. You could buy a 44 and a really good torque converter for the same price new as one billet compressor BB turbo.

proven is good, this is why i grabbed a 49 with the g.63ex in the meantime with the stock TC, til im better setup to run a bigger billet dbb unit.
and the price was right on a newly pte rebuild, so im not 1500 into a turbo that im going to want to upgrade when the car can spin a 62 or 67.

bison speaks the truth .....
or you can even to go with a ball bearing 44 and a little less on the converter, a decent 10" TC + BB44 will be the same price as a new bilett bb.

I feel the same way with 49 blues,I gota bone stock low mile GN,I can't do my convertor swaps ,its a bit pain in the butt paying ,waiting, sending convertors back for restalling . I have had a stock d5,restalled d5,pats 10 inch, west coast 10 inch, tcs 9 inch, and my first 9 inch PTC N/L. All within 3-4 years. I bought my new car 6500 miles to avoid all hat and if I do upgrade it with a turbo that will work with the d5,it locks well, backs up great with no gas pedel and plain drives nice. Not to say some of those converters didn't. Put a bigger convertor(higher stall) will only lead to a bigger turbo, more breaking more headaches.I'm going to keep this car simple with less breaks and more driving enjoyment.I consider that d5 my power govenor from going crazy again like my last cars.I think 49 blue has a race car so I guess he wants one very close to stock.

If you already had a 49/44 id spend the $1500 on a set of heads even if the cam is left stock and the intake untouched. It will just net a lot more than another turbo which will require more boost and rpm to make a noticeable difference. If there is a budget then what im suggesting will go the farthest. If no budget then it doesnt really matter.

if i have to change the converter then maybe id go for something alittle larger like a 6265 or 6765.
Everyone running the 6765 recommends running an ext. WG (44mm) to control boost. Not sure if u have an ext. WG or not.
