What do you all think is a best shift kit? I just found out I have a Transgo what do all think if that brand?

I have used TransGo, B&M, TCI, Art Carr and a few others but I like the Art Carr for the 200-4R trans the best. I actually have a modified TransGo kit in my GN now and I built that trans back in '98 and it's still going strong. B&M would be last on my list.

Have you tried a non modded trans go kit. I just heard a lot of bad things about them, I have fresh rebuild and I m having troubles with it with the trans go kit installed andnow and Im trying to rule out the shift kit.

In the 4L60E trannies, that is all I use. As for the 200's, I have done a couple without modifying them and ZERO complaints. One is even a top end racer from Carlsbad, NM who runs in the 140mph class with his El Camino. Built his in 99 and he's as happy as a clam.

Im positve thats its a governor issue and I need to remedy it. heres some pics on the modded one and one that I got from chris at ckperformance. Top picture is the one I fixed up, the one on the left is the one my rebuilder did,(suposedly) one on the right is the new OEM one from chris @ CK performance.

Thats the thing th eone on the left does look better BUT. This being said then Chris sold me the wrong part. I do have a 442 and it he did say it was for a 442. HEs a guru and I trust him but I having doubts. My tranny rebuilder says it wrong. but chris assured me its right. My transmisson with the one on the left shifts right but wont 2-1 downshift. The OEM chris sold me SHifts way too soon and 2-1 downshift are almost gone but still did it. I think im gonna try the on on top tommorrow. The original governor only had one spring in it. I had thrown that spring before and when I did install 2 spring the tranny went nuts then also.

the governer you purchased from us is a 442 governer.if you are having other issues then you have the wrong parts installed elsewhere or a bad build.the green gear and intermediate weight governer were only installed in the 442 ho olds.its unfortunate that others dont know what they are looking at.if your having doubts thats unfortunate.we are not in the business of being dishonest.the gverner was removed from an oz6 coded 2004.all hurst olds and 442 codes used this type of governer with a performance valve body casting.if you want 5500 rpm upshifts send in the governer and we will give you a gn governer.problem is the engine will overspeed on wot upshifts.

The one on the right is a 442 governor. I can actually pull the one out of my wife's 442 and it will look identical. Chris is not going to screw you. You don't get a good rep by doing bad deals. When spring rates in the valve body get changed from stock and the governor/springs are changed out without engineering behind it, then the calibration is off also. All needs to match/compliment each other. Same when someone gets a regular 200-4R (OG) and tries just the GN governor. Not going to work properly.

left one is....

A GN govenor.

With a 3.73 rear end ratio gear on it.

Just my observation...

Should I take back the transmisson to the rebuilder and make them use the OEM with the OEM springs? I got the transmission back together today and I use the one on the left with only one spring in secondary side. and it Shifts fine now I havent noticed it not downshifting into first yet but the shifts are a little high righ now but dooable. Let me know what governor I should tell the tranny builder to use or should I just leave it like it is if it is working properly. And if it does not 2-1 again what could that be?

PS

BTW NICE BOOK CHRIS well done it helped me a little when i reassybled everything. EVEN though more then half of it is greek Im sure I will understand it sooner or later. I do have a KZ valve body is this better then a OZ or are thay the same?

PSS

im not doubting you chris I just want the 150 governor to work I paid for it and I want it to work and it wont work properly, My rebuilder keeps blameing you and you are blameing the transmision I have no Idea whos at fault IM not a transmission expert and I dont wish to be I know FUel injection thats my field. I paid someone 1800 so I wouldnt have too touch it cause I dont know squat about transmissions. If I knew a reputable rebuild in MY MN st paul area I would have taken it there already and paid 2 times to get it done right.

so whats the answer to this guys question ?
Chris email me, I have a frsh 200r4 and im wanting a bad ass shift kit, I installed the B&M , and its not what i expected. It shifts a lil harder then it did when it was stock.

the oz and kz are similar.they were however used with a factory high perf valve body like the gn and ss but used the heavier governers.a gn gov on the kz or oz will yield 5500 plus rpm wot upshifts
