Guys, I am having my engine rebuilt and purchased a BHJ balancer (Externally Balanced) and I noticed that it's bigger than the stock balancer. Does that pose to be a problem or should I not worry and continue with my build! Please reply.... Mechanic Waiting!!!!

Thanks,

Sam

Why would that be a problem?...as long as you have the rotating assembly balanced with the BHJ balancer there shouldn't be a problem...

The BHJ balancer needs to have the thin metal plate used for crank position sensor mounted and indexed for the proper timing. Beware of crank sensor mounts that hold the sensor on the block interfearing with the larger balancer, some do and some do not. Thats been my experience.

So if the crank sensor does interfere, where can I get one that doesn't???????
Thanks,
Sam

I disagree...the BHJ is designed to fit very tight on the crankshaft snout and needs to be installed using the proper balancer installation tool...it's not supposed to be a slip fit like the stock balancer...now if it won't install with the tool then it could be honed out but only enough so it will go on using the tool...

The instructions that come with the balancer stated that proper clearance needs to met. With my Eagle crank, I needed to hone it.

I put a BHJ balancer on a stock crank and it was very, very tight. Too tight for my liking. I thought I was going to break the installer tool.

The stock bracket worked best. I had an aftermarket that seemed to be made for multiple applications/different positions. So i just used a dremmel and cleaned off the offending portion.;)
Due to the press fit, I'd suggest installing the bal. first then the bracket/sensor. HTH
