I just had my tranny rebuilt and was re-installing it. When the tranny was in place, I carefully pushed the converter (D5) on, rotated it and it clicked and went in a bit more. (just like usual) When I attached the motor, I noticed that there is a lot of space between the flexplate and converter... like 3/8 of an inch.
Yes the motor is snug up against the tranny ;)
What could be wrong?

Paul

when a torque convertor is cut open to be rebuilt and then closed up it tends to shrink because of material removed on the overhaul and it dont take much to rack up excessive clearance .in my professional opinion .080 to .120 yhousands of an inch is ideal clearance so add weashers between the flywheel and convertor to arrive at prescribed clearance .make sure all washers used are the same thickness.www.ckperformance.com

I/4" washers ok?

Converter wasn't touched, just the same stock D5. Tranny was freshened. If I go with the 0.125 clearance, is using 1/4" washers or shims safe?

Thanks
Paul

I grew up using the regular inch stuff... my brain still takes a while to convert to metric. ;)
Don't know Paul, but most of the Toronto area guys know each other. We usually have a couple of Buick day's at the track, and a few "chew the fat" get togethers, so I figure sooner or later we will meet. If you talk to him, tell him most of us hang out over here http://www.turbobuicks.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=29

Thanks
