at a WOT run i sometimes hit what seems to be a "rev limiter" at the top of 1st gear. my car will stumble real bad (at the top of 1st) and i just end up taking my foot off the gas completely and slowly ease back into it to get to 2nd gear. sometimes it seems like the car stays in 1st gear a little too long and then it stumbles. actually, the car seems to want to stay in most gears longer than it is supposed to be.
i assumed it was maybe valve springs causing the stutter but now i think it may be my transmission govenor or something simple like my TV cable needs to be adjusted.
any ideas?

From what I've read it sounds like the governor spring may have came off. Do a search there are some good posts on the repairs.

Where have all the transmission Gurus gone?

Don

if the govenor spring has popped off woulds my car act like this until i get it fixed? if so i do not think it is that because it only acts up on rare occasions like when i am about to race a mitsubishi 3000gt vr-4 ;) .
i am going to adjust my TV cable first and i will let ya know what happens

I had a very similar problem and found out I was having some battery voltage issues (old bat) and after replacing the battery it went away.

hmmmmmmmm. i have noticed that sometimes (at night) when i am sitting at a light, my lights will temporarily dim and the volt meter drops into the 12's and sometimes into the 11 volt range. the car will aslo idle a little rough when this happens. why would a voltage issue cause my car to act in the way i stated in my first post though?
