Is this a true hot air block #25514290 . If so some info on it would be a treat thanks

Weird thou the casting number is on the bottom driver side of the engine i had to get on the ground and under the driver side to see it. Ive seen um on top. I might be off a number.Ill check again. can some one verify where the casting is located on a hot air. There is also a round cast iron lifting point right next to the knock sensor on the back.

Casting number is on the bottom of the block, drivers side near the transmission. Good luck. Brad

Your not of a #, It's a 1979 turbo block.
Freeking idiots put a 79 block toghether with 84 hotair parts on it.Well looks like back to the drawing board with this crap, well basically it is almost the same block right:rolleyes: ;)

The real issue is not the block but what is in it. The crank and pistons and other thinks are turbo specific. The only way to find out is to open up the motor. I personally would leave it alon and enjoy the car. My 2 cents. Brad

That is indeed a Hot Air block casting. I have 2 of them here in the shop. Both out of 1984. Both 14 bolt oil pans. You could always check the VIN that is stamped on it. I bet you would find that it starts with a 4EHXXXXXX.

I didn't even bother to click on the GNT-TYPE link. From what I've seen a 79 casting would start with a 12 or 2550.

Just like the 109 blocks the Turbos and NAs used the same casting numbers.

This is great news gives me a sense of stability now.A "1979" block is low on the tecnology list Thanks for the help.

where would the vin be stamped on it

Drivers side. Back on the bell housing flange. The is a flat area where a partial VIN is stamped.

I have the same casting number on my '83 T type's block (original motor). I agree that any 2551xxxx casting would have been made well after 1979. They started showing up in 1982 from what I have seen.
