Hey all, I have gotten my hands on a bunch of Block Heaters for the TB's but dont know exactly how they look installed, and their exact location, can anyone please send me pics or post them in detail about the location?

thanks

Are they the Original GM heaters? Are you going to sell any of them? I like those odd-ball options.:)

The ones for Chevy motors just simply replaced one of the block freeze plugs. :)

GM Parts Direct has a listing for them for about $15.00 if anyone want one. I think the number is 99-99992. Anyone verify?

We used them in our street-BBs so there was no such thing as a cold crank-up, anytime of the year, garage or not! :) :)

HAHAHAHA

IVE got a car with the stock motor- 86 t-type with the factory block heater installed-
all looks stock and it has a very old zip tie holding it together-

if you really want me to go out and pull the engine :) ill do it this week-
it should only take me 1.5 hours :)

darned thing is i need to purchase a digital camera....

let me know if you need some info-

please do, pics is enough, no need to remove any motors... thanks ;)

and yes i would sell one....

The heater replaces the block core plug behind the starter motor. The connector is at the 6 oclock position. The power cable goes into the wire conduit that the battery positvie cable is in. The remainder of the wire got bunched up and wire tied to the rad support at the battery. Somewhere, I have pictures of a factory instaled block heater. I'll look for them. HTH

GM has 2 different numbers for the block heater. #999222 is what they call an accesory kit. It was made for cars that did not come equiped for one, if you wanted to add one it has everything you need, heater, cord, wire ties. The OEM number is 25537080 for the heater and #52353026 for the cord. These are replacement parts for the factory installed heater. The cord is discontinued. Sometimes the parts in the kit dont matched the original parts in function or appearance. But since none of us have RPO K05? on our option tag that shouldn't make a difference.

Yes it was an option and rather rare and rather cheap too. :D

Saw a 5 minute special on International Falls MN on the Weather Channel yesterday. Everyone in town has a block heater, or they don't go anywhere. ;)

Lots of extension cords around, and ice....

I've been thinking about doing this for awhile, but I was going to use one of those you just epoxy to the oil pan. Or is that just an oil heater? I've seen people use those oil pan ones at the track, thats what got me wondering. I don't want to take the freeze plug out, sounds like a lot of work.

The GM cars getting engine heaters from the factory were/are standard Regional Options, i.e. all cars going to e.g., North Dakota or Minnesota would likely have them. Doubtful that very many were specifically ordered by an individual customer. Dealers in those climes that truly need them generally include them on all their cars.

:)

So the block heater keeps the coolant in the block warm, thus making the engine warm?

My late model bonneville has a block heater, the part number should interchange. 3800 should have the same size freeze plugs.

The Cold Facts

Pardon the partially OT-post on cold climate options, but before I forget...

There was a GN for sale (eBay) in Canada last year that mentioned in its ad that this GN had the "original rare optional Canada-only "Gravel Guard" paint on the lower side panels".

Hehehe! :) :) :)
