a loud bang followed by loss power and smoke. the pipe will be visible off IC or TB. Mine has only blown off at the throttle body though.

And possibly a large inverted dent in your hood If it's violent enough.

Hose clamp completely blown off and clanging down the street. That sound will make you think the worst.

^^^^^^. All of the above. I had to replace hood pad, still have the dent but cleaned up soil mark in seat. Use double Tbar clamps and hair spray to hold it on.

I wound up having a bracket fab'd to clamp the up pipe to the TB. Kept blowing off no matter how many T bolt clamps I used. Destroyed my pristine PTE FMIC uppipe, which are no longer made. Got one from another mfr and it never fit just right even though we cut and welded more than once. I'll attach a pic when I get back home.

Just like a belly button, that kind of "dent " is known as an "outy". :X3:

back to the original question. Unless you're running some really big boost, buy yourself some Home Depot screw type hose clamps and kiss your problem goodbye.

You'll need to use a little cranking tight action on them..............

This is one of the few places i use Permatex Ultra Black rtv, the others are intercooler hoses and all the vacuum hoses. It doesn't take a lot so you don't have to get crazy and glob it on , just a reasonably thick layer where the hose slides on then use screw type clamps and plastic wire ties.

And give the rtv as much time as possible to dry and cure before starting the car up and driving down the road doing 80 + mph lol.

And just in case you have never noticed, the end of the hose clamp has a slot for a screw driver but also is a hexagon. You know what fits on a hexagon? A 5/16 nut driver. I have not used a screwdriver on a hose clamp in years. I am amazed at how many people still do. You can get the clamp WAY tighter with a nut driver or socket. Don't get nuts though as you can strip the band.

But when you take your hoses off, clean the inside of the hoses and the outside of the pipes with alcohol or acetone to get all the oil and shit off. THEN reinstall with hairspray. Lube the hoseclamp screw too to get it real tight. I blew my up pipe off at the bottom end 2 weekends ago :) No, I didn't clean all the surfaces. Which is why it blew off :)

I built a brace right off the bat. I knew I did not want the chance of doing any damage to my hoodpad or my up pipe. I've seen several different types of braces over the years.
