My dad and I share an '87 Grand National. While I was driving it, I gave it some throttle, the tranny downshifted to 1st and when it shifted back into 2nd I heard a pop. It will go in gear and in reverse. It takes quite a bit of throttle before the car starts to move and won't shift into 2nd. It will get to 20 mph in 1st won't go any higher. Can anyone help me figure out what the exact problem is and what I need to do?

May have sheered the stator support on the pump. Time to pull the trans and take a look.

Never blew a tranny before....Ive done some crazy stuff, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

Just about fell out my chair on that one! I was thinking the same thing just trying to think of a way to word it. You nailed it!

You beat me too, it! I was just about to post "Hmmm sounds like a dirty mess.."

On a serious note though, when it does start to move is it a slam in and move or is it more of a slipping move? Also do you hear any metallic/grinding noises?

Its more like a slipping kind of move and there aren't any noises other that the engine wound up over 3k rpms. When it gets over 3k then it tries to move and eventually gets going.
