Is there a board policy for selling items, like first to speak up requesting something, etc?

I posted that I was wanting to get a part for a friend that is not internet capable. The seller accepted my request for a day to find out. I even replied that I would let them know as soon as possible. And I did, from my cell phone also - in 12 1/2 hours.

Low and behold, some jerkoff, jumped in an hour before I let the seller know that I was definately wanting it, and requesting a paypal address to send the funds to and then sells it out from under me. The freaking nerve of people. I guess some people like jacking people over, and others honor are worthless.

This is what I am talking about.

Thanks for listening to me rant...

Pretty much. I always thought it was a good idea for a DEADBEAT section when someone gets burned for parts or money. But maybe we could use a DOUCHBAG section as well.

I agree. i had the same problem which i wont post the link to. I posted in a thread asking for pictures of the car. once i got pictures i said i would take it and wanted to meet up for the pickup. anyways some douche bag pmed him and he sold it to him. the guy he sold it to didnt even post in the thread. i was following what i thought was the propper way of doing things on this board but i guess not.

Cash talks and sometimes don't care who it comes from. It sucks but there's nothing anybody can really do.

You are right about cash talking. But there is something that can help a little...

The V8BUICK board that I have been a member of for quite a while has a pretty good solution.

They have a policy that business is done in that sale thread. PMs are for trading info on how and where to make payments and ship to addresses. First responder is exactly the first in line to buy until they turn it down or a time has been allowed to respond. No PM traffic to cut someone off or screw someone over. It is pretty plain and simple. You can post that a PM is sent, and do so with an offer, but you have to be in line on that posting.

I think people should be able to buy what they want from who they want, however, it should be the sellers responsability to keep all members interested in the item in the loop.

I agree, there are some people to whom I would never sell parts even if they were first contact.

I always go with the first person that can paypal me the $$$. I've had way too many times where someone tells me they will take it, or even say check is in the mail, and I never hear from them again.
Meanwhile it's 3 weeks later and the other people who were interested don't need the part anymore.

I'm with Glen on this one....Having sold many items on various forums and Craigslist, I used to be polite and 'hold' items for those that promised to show up and purchase or send funds. Unfortunately, its about 60 to 70% success rate on that policy with 30 to 40% of people no-showing and ceasing communication. How freakin hard is it to e-mail or call back and say sorry, circumstances changed and I'm no longer interested. Instead they fall into a black hole. As a result, most anything I sell it is first come first served, meaning first to come with money, not first to say I'm interested. As a buyer I expect the same thing and pay immediately if I'm interested in a product.

As to the OP, unfortunately you were acting as a mediator between two parties and that always complicates things and extends times. For future reference, you might ask your friend to more narrowly define the parameters of securing a buy so that you can jump on it. Otherwise, I think you should accept that the additional complexity and time involved shuttling info back and forth will lead to potential lost opportunities. Just my 2c.
