A genuine car guy - comes from the 'ol school of racing, plus-and now ready to enter his last race. Bob passed away Thursday @ his home in Poway, Ca. For those of us who came to know him as a great (big) guy, fun to be around with, from the school of hard racing (some street stuff, well-something like that); liked to see the big time racers (including car shows, hangouts, and U don't want to challenge him out there) like, Stone Woods @ Cook, Snake, Mongoose, Big Willy and Tommy Allen (a local), The Greek, yeah, even twin buicks TV Tommy Ivo and others. No, Bob wasn't one of those, but a big aficionado (fan) of cars and events such as The Buick Nats @ Bowling Green and Miramar Drag Strip (otherwise known as the Navy's Auxiliary Field turned into a drag strip by locals) in InSane Diego. Could be seen on any weekend at Carlsbad Drag strip, Winter Natss, Morena Drag strip, I-5 and others. I found him to be likeable, fits in anywhere-respects friends, hard drivers, hot cars, mechanics and such. His many friends will miss him along with his humor and take no prisoners out there. I hold him in great respect, a true friend, a helping friend-a true American, a Veteran. He leaves his wife, Patty, and son Frank.

Burial @ Miramar National Cemetary in San Diego on February 11, 2014.
A Celebration of Life is planned @ the VFW located across the street from his house in Poway, Ca.

Sorry to hear this. Anyone have a picture of him?

Pat,

Sorry to hear about Bob. He was always such a great guy to hang out with. I ran into him about 9 months ago at AA muffler in Poway. I didn't know it would be the last time I saw him. My condolences go out to his family.

God Speed Bob!

Thanks Neal - appreciate it. A&A was a once a week hang out for my Dad as he enjoyed going over there telling car stories of days of old.

Pat - thanks for all the kind words said here and on Tuesday. I know he loved hanging out with a guy as "old' as he was and always talked about the times you guys had in Bowling Green.

What Pat was alluding to about being from the old school- 1960 (he was 25 - "one young man")

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Cajon_Boulevard_Riot

Last time he "legally" raced was back in 08' at a private track rental in Fontana. Scary thought of a 72 year old rowin' the gears of a 3100# car (07 Z06) with 475 hp at the wheels. Although it was a fun day of racing, he always commented on the stellar cold-cuts that Mike B. provided to some of us "ill prepared" during the day.

Frank,

Thanks for posting the pic of your Dad at the GS Nationals. It brings back memories, was that taken in 1995? I see Pat is on the left, is that Ron Patterson on the right? That old school article from 1960 is cool too. I'm sure your Dad is looking down smiling about some of the mischief he got into over the years. Cheers to a life well lived!

That is a great pic of Frank's Dad. And as to the two guys with Bob, yes-the other guy is Ron Patterson. A short word about Patterson-he won the Winter Nationals @ Pomona, Ca in a 1955 chevy and I think it was in 1960 or there about. His car was built by the Cope Brothers out of National City, Ca and Dyno Don Nicholson was his tuner for a couple years or so. Frank, that guy in the newspaper pic looks like your dad, eh? Well, he did a lot of racing, I can attest to that.
