I was thinking of ordering a Russell stainless steel braided hose kit for $72 out of Jegs. My hoses could stand to be replaced and from what I've heard, I'll gain a harder pedal. My brakes feel fine but harder is better. Has anyone made this upgrade or have an opinion to offer?

It is a nice mod but I do not know if you would feel a difference with a PM system?

stainless lines

Red, I changed to the braided stainless lines about 5 yrs. ago have changed the fluid once since then and have had no problems. As to the firmer pedal I can't say if it helped or not since I changed rotors and calipers with Performance friction linings at the same time. Pedal is much firmer when compared to my son's WE-4.

Thanks guys, for your suggestions. I have vaccuum brakes fyi. I've been thinking about the 12" brake upgrade, but for now, I'll just do this. I'll probably never get around to it, anyway. I also want to put in the S-10 wheel cylinders. I thought I did it before when I changed rears but I'm thinking they just gave me the smaller wheel cylinders because I never felt any difference.

John, I've got the S-10 wheel cylinders and feel no difference myself. I compared the pucks and they were definitely larger than stock so I know I got the right ones. They were Bendix from AutoZone, I remember them being $9.99 ea but can't remember the p/n. As far as the hoses go, I doubt you get much for your $80 shipped hoses. Be the guinea pig and let us know.

Hi John.....I'm not sure about my S-10s. At least you didn't feel any difference either when you changed them. The brake lines should be 3 lines. L&R front and the one connected above the differential to the lines. Even new rubber ones cost in the vicinity of $45 so I'd be halfway there. ;)

As I recall, Classic Tube said the cost for their exact fit braided ss
lines are $30 for each caliper.

I did the Russels when I did the 12 inch front discs and S-10 rears. I felt the rubber ones were getting old and the braided stainless was a good safer replacement. I think they should be bled again to get a firmer pedal.
