The accumulator ball went out on my brakes last night. Where is the best place to buy one. I would like to try to get one this weekend.

I called HI/Lo they wanted $179.99:eek:

Thanks in advance

Has anyone figured out how to recharge this damn thing??I know someone has, but don't know who it is. Seems a shame to pay over a $100 for a little lost nitrigen:mad:

Damm, the price on these things are high. For some reason I was thinking they where about $30-$40. I was way off.

My brake peddle is hard and my brake light is on. That is the accumulator ball isan't it?

Thanks

Vacuum Conversion...

How much engine vacuum is necessary to run the vacuum brakes properly? Our motor is a bit cammy and produces 12.5" @ idle. If I remember correctly from my Chevy V8 days, this amount of vacuum level might require a reservoir.

I just got a new one from Ebay for $75. I heard they went up in price recently. When I had those symptoms it was my pump/motor assembly. I tried to follow the flow chart in the powermaster trouble shooting book, but it pointed to the grey switch. So I replaced that first, but it didn't help. I think it is really hard to determine what your problem is. If i had to guess, though, I would think it would be the pump/motor. Try calling Hank Terry as I think he is making them again. Or get one from autozone- whole powermaster for something like $300 I've heard.

Ive had a vaccum setup for 6 months with no problem. The brakes feel like they should and I can hold 10+#s of boost. Ive seen 25#s of boost and everything is still working great. Vaccum is the way to go if you dont care about originality. MIKE

The entire PM unit is 174.95 at autozone(+ $40 core charge). It comes w/ the ball, switch, motor, everything..... This is with a lifetime warranty of course.:D

GM parts at wholesale....

I went to my local Buick dealer and he agreed to sell me parts at wholesale. I explained that those parts are available at huge discounts on the web from some dealers to Buick club members. This is true, look at the vendor section at GNTTYPE.org for a long list of parts sources. http://www.gnttype.org/vendors/index.html I found a person on that list who'd sell me an accumulator for $75-80 plus shipping.

I explained to the parts manager at my local Buick dealer that I wanted to support a local business if I could, rather than deal mail order. He said "yes" right away and I've purchased several parts in the last two years that way. I bought an accumulator for my 87 TR Ltd for about $75 or thereabouts.

You can call him, Buck Fischer Parts Manager, at 1-719-636-3881 and see what he can do. He told me that shipping a part out would be no problem. If I can help on this end here in Colorado Springs, let me know. :D Just PM me and I'll do what I can for you.

A similar conversation with your local buick parts manager might yield the same results....Worth a try. Do it on the phone and sound like you're wearing a $1000 suit. A smart parts manager will cooperate with you. Times are hard, any increase in volume will help the dealership's numbers.

Guys,
Thanks for all the great tips. I found a accumulator ball local from a friend if it fixes the problem I will buy a new one.

Thanks again

Advance Discount Auto Parts.
I paid $199 about 2 years ago for a COMPLETE lifetime warranty PM. If it gives me any trouble, I just swap it out.
I've read on this board of prices as low as $129 at other auto parts stores.
Why even mess with trying to figure out the problem & pay $$$$ for a ball when the whole unit is lifetime warranty?

guys,

check gmpartsdirect.com. I purchased one last year for $58 brand new including shipping. Just thought you'd like to know...:)
