I'm in the market for aluminum cylinder heads. ('87 GN stock block)

The obvious two choices appear to be either TA (SI) or GN1.
Are they about the same quality?
Any preference?
Are there any others to consider?

Yep

IMHO, the TA is better. A fully assembled Champion head weighted the same as a bare TA head. I used both and I have the TA SE heads on my motor. You are going to get alot of different opinions on this. I have used both.

Any preference?

See above

Are there any others to consider?

There are also Stage 2 heads but those are a different all together. You will need different cam, heads and intake. And the small bore of a 3.8 will shroud the valves.

BTW: What are your goals?

Thanks for the info, I was kind of leaning towards TA.

My goals are to be upwards of 550hp
Right now I have:
Eagle 4340 Crank (Stock Stroke)
Eagle 4340 H Beam Rods
RJC Girdle W/Crank Scraper
J&W Flexplate
BHJ Balancer
Diamond Forged Pistons (.030'' over)
Akerly & Childs Rings

I am also thinking of going hydraulic roller if that matters.

My goal would probably be a repectable 11 with potential to go lower.

I don't have a converter or turbo lined up yet.

Run stock heads to the 10.90 mark, then step up to ported IRON heads. There is ZERO reason to spend the money on aluminum heads if your goal is a 11.0 or slower. If you want to run 10.00 or slower, run ported IRON heads, especially if the car is 90% street driven. If your heads are trashed then maybe do it onece and do it right, BUT....I still feel a good set of ported iron heads will get 90% of the people were they don't really want to go.;)

ported champion irons are half the price as TA's and will take u into the 9's
