They run the blow off valves to keep the compressor nut from loosening. Its simply not needed in 99% of applications with an automatic. It wont hurt running one but there are other things to spend money on that are more wise in almost all instances. Ive run everything from stock up to T72 at 30 psi with no blow off and never had a thrust problem, broken turbine, or loose compressor nut. Ive seen loose compressor nuts on some mid frames though. The exhaust wheel has to much inertia in those applications and the back flow unscrews the compressor nut:eek: .

ive also heard with big turbos if you dont run a blowoff valve it can bend the blades in your throttle body or blow through carb with high boost.

This seems unlikely with out a back fire unless the blades are very thin. Ive never seen or heard of it without a bad backfire. Those would have to be really big turbos.

I saw Jack snap a shaft on his turbo, he at first thought his converter was shot but found out later it was the turbo.

He had to get in and out of the throttle peddaling it on a badly prepped LVD track rental about 3 years ago. :frown:

Well okay LVD is always badly prepped.

He thought he might run a BOV valve at one point but I doubt he ever did put one on the car.

Exhaust wheel blades broken

What do you think caused this failure? I've only got 4000 miles on this TE62. I'm running 23lbs boost on the street and I'm in and out of the boost quite often. As you can see by the pics, the exhaust wheels is toast!! There is still not an unusual amount of play in the shaft....only a little side to side and no in and out.

That looks like something went through your exhaust into the exhaust wheel!

Not good!

Car still runs and drives fine on just the motor....although it's pretty gutless.
