I recently bought an 88 Monte SS and it started shifiting late and hard. Found the plate end that clips on the carb linage broken. I am aware that I can repair the cable. The big spring and check ball thing that we remove when we rebuild them is still in this trans. IIRC this will prevent trans from burning up in this excate situation.

Can someone remind me why we remove these anyways? Trans has 211k easy miles and shifted great. Yes it was behind a 305:smile:,that's gonna change.

Is the TV cable from a TR the same as an SS?

Did some research and I see no reason to take that check ball and spring thingy out. It hands down saved my trans. My father in law was using it when it happened and he's not a car guy...just kept driving it and did not say anything about to me before he left.

There's a few repair options out there. Sonnax sells a cable you cut to length and another place sells a replacement clip that slips over the extisting cable. Both are cheap fixes and worth a shot.
