Does anyone know what GNX specifically was used for the Auto shows in 1987? My particular curiosity is for the car at the 1987 CHICAGO AUTO SHOW. It was there that I first became aware of the GNX when I stumbled across the display turntable, spinning this magnificent Grand National showpiece. I must have been in the dark, not knowing a thing about the X.
It was also the first time I sat in a GN. One with T-tops on the display floor. The GNX when NOT accesable, a rail encircled the car. But I heard that vandals picked off a piece or two when no- one was looking. Stinking Creeps.
Sure would like to hear from anyone with knowledge of the showcars.

Have a good day.

87 GN- moonroof every option availble including that stupid digital dash which was yanked out (THANK YOU GOD), to make way for NOS GNX Stewart Warner Dash. Big Smile! T/A GNX wheels. NEVER USE window defrost or engine block heater in FLORIDA

I'd be willing to bet it was #001. Buick still owns that car and occasionally takes it out to events. It's been to the Nats in BG a number of times.

I've got a picture of me standing next to number 1 at norwalk last year, the black hawk was there too and some other cool cars

I do believe it is GNX #002. I read in all the magazines back in 86 or 87 that #001 no longer exists. Supposedly it was stolen, stripped of its wheels and radio and left in a back alley in Detriot. Buick yanked the motor and put it in the big woodgrained Estate wagon that was seen at the GSCA nationals back in 89 or 90? The body was crushed. The last time I saw #002 was at the Nationals in 2001 when it was also displayed with the Blackhawk. There is a copy of the window sticker in one of Steven Doves facts and figures books. Somewhere I have a picture of the dash and I'll try to post it in my web album for you.

this is an incorrect statement because I actually attended our local "Summer Fling" event in Michigan about a month ago and GNX #1 was there...has not even 1000 miles on it and there isn't a spec of dirt on it anywhere...guy named Kevin hauled it from GM on a HUGE enclosed trailor where he also had a 1970 white Buick GSX with 18,000 original miles and one of the first ones built...he also owns himself GNX #305 and has it modded with a ball bearing Innovative turbo and a PTE stock location intercooler:)

Could it have been a prototype car? There is a guy that owns a prototype GNX and the prototype GSX on another board that I frequent. I don't know if he's on this board or not.

slight correction Don, mileage on #001 was 3985.1 that day. :D I'd post some pics of it on here but all the ones I took are way too big. :)

Rumor has it that GM takes the first two of each car off the line and stuffs them in a warehouse. They're all serviced, started and driven occasionally, and in the case of things of historic import, dragged out for shows.

That was a test mule GNX. Heck, they would have crushed it anyway as that's pretty standard procedure.

#001 is owned by Buick and shown around as stated. No it wasn't ever stolen or crushed or whatever the rumor may be. #500 is in the Sloan museum and #002 is owned by a private individual.

It Is GNX 001

Hey Don, You are right. That is #001. I dont now where I got the idea it was #002. The window sticker for #002 is copied in Steven Dove's Guide to Buick Grand National,T-Type&GNX on page 235.Here are some pictures of GNX #001.
