You'll need a scanmaster. This will give you O2's, and you can monitor a bunch of other stuff as well. You can buy one at fullthrottlespeed.com

It is a very valuable tool for tuning, really a must have for these cars.

Wow this is going to be expensive. I e-mailed Eric. Hopefully I can come to a decision soon.

where are you located? you should have someone from the board look at the car with you.

You need to be sure it doesn't have a blown headgasket, spun bearings or other hidden damage. Make sure the trans doesn't slip.

If the engine is sound, and it only needs tuning and minor repairs, then a few hundred dollars should make it run well.

That turbo is most likely a 60mm or 63mm compressor.

if you are interested in HP, the 84 will never make the hp the 87 will.

The car is at Country Classic Cars in Staunton, IL. Look on their website and you will see the 84 and 87. I am sure that both are not original mileage? But who would know. I am leary of trading with a car lot but it is an 87 GN.

Anybody have a clue (ballpark) on what it would cost to make it run right for the summer?

You never know with these cars...;) (Take a look at some of the pics posted on this webboard. Do you know why the hood is always open? It's because these car are money pits and that's where you throw the money... And we happy fools are content to give them as much money as they want;)  )

Buy the car. Do the spring cleaning http://www.gnttype.org/maint/basics.html and make sure all the basics are covered. If the car is too loud take it to an exhaust shop and make it quieter.

You'll probably need a new chip, and of course a scan tool like the scanmaster...

Just make sure you "buy it right" (ie: take into consideration any and all things you consider issues, price a fix accordingly and offer a reasonable amount of money for the car.) This is a buyers market and there are many very nice cars for sale at reasonable prices.

Good Luck with your purchase.

My car is worth more now than the GN because it does not run correct. I don't know if they would throw cash my way or fix it? I will have to talk to them about that. I will probably just wait for the right deal. But it is worth a shot!

if those cars at country classic cars in staunton, their going to be way overpriced. you'd be way better for your time and money to buy a known good car from a reputable member on this site or similiar

They are asking 8900. So it is probably beat down beyond what I could fix? i was thinking that they are overpriced as well but 8900 for a good GN is a good price? I will have to sleep on it. The problem with buying a car is I have to get rid of my Convertible. I cannot have 2 cars.

If there is nothing wrong with the engine with those upgrades and the body and interior the way they are I think 8,900 is a very reasonable price. That said, they probably can't get it running right.

That GN looks pretty good for that price. Looks like it's been taken care of. Shouldn't take too much to make her run right. There's lots of us TR junkies out here that are happy to help you out.

Besides it's just their "asking price", The asking price is always negotiable and I'm sure that in this economy the dealer will be extra negotiable.

If your car is a collector type "limited edition" that Camaro guys covet, you may want to sell it outright as opposed to trading -to any dealer. They'll never give you what your car is worth. Maybe even try ebay...

It is a low production car but all anybody wants to give me is 4 grand? They pick it apart and it is highly modified. Just a bad time.

Being in Illinois- Get under the car and make certain it's not a major cancer victim too! I'd save my money and find a car that's running right, whether modded or not. You may buy into someone else's abortion, especially from a used car lot! If it was a one-owner car, there's no way to check for actual mileage either(may have rolled over).

What's this Camaro supposed to be worth? Obviously you do not think that
$4k is a fair price for it. I do not know what a 1990 Iroc Convertible "Limited Edition" Marlboro giveaway car should be valued at.

Maybe you need to expand your target market and focus on "smokers" in KY, TN, WV, VA, & NC. This market might be more interested...

Do you HAVE to sell the car or merely WANT to? Maybe you should wait until you have secured a buyer for your car at the price you are looking to get and then go shopping for a TR... Just my .02:cool:

I wouldn't go near a GN or any car that doesn't run right. You'll just chase your tail trying to find "phantom" vacuum leaks, sluggish idle, hesitations, knock issues...ect.

Ask me how I know? My car as well as many others on this board thousands of dollars later still remain unsolved mysteries. Do yourself a favor and get one that runs right.
Just my 02

Yes I thought about targeting the people with the Marlboro memorabilia and go from there. Here is a pic of the car (everytime I drive this car I want to listen to Def Lepard! ) and no I do not have to sell it I just would like a GN but I am not willing to just get the first thing that comes available. I wish the 84 T-Type was intercooled. It is super clean and low mileage.

No 4k could not touch the engine in the car. Just people using the economy to try to get something for nothing. I would go e-bay but most would not pay and you would have to re-auction. I don't know if anyone on here is looking for a good convertible but I will keep searching.
