Hello I have not been on the boards in a while, I had another name but forgot, so I had to re-register.
My current dilema is this. I will be ebaying my 93 5.0 Mustang coupe, 91000 miles and extremely clean. Looking for 8500-10000. Yes, Its that nice. So Im getting the itch for another Buick. I had an 86 GN, then sold it due to financial reasons, but I loved it. Now, I will be in a position to get another nice Buick or I was thinking 2003-2004 Cobra. I know theres a price difference, but thats beside the point. I am a car enthusiast for the Buicks and Mustangs. Since Ive been out of the Buick culture a while now, what would it take to get a Turbo Buick to out run the 03-04 supercharged Cobras?
Oh, I also cannot get both cars, that would be perfect. Thanx.

gn vs mudstain

that,s easy most modded gn,s will humble mudstains. a pte6152turbo and 60 lbs injectors.will put you in the high10.80s w/ mt drag radials.tell mudstain boy to take a good look at the front of youre car. because he,s going to get a good long look at the back of youre car down the 1320.

lol..I know of the rivalry! Bigger turbo and injectors huh? Sounds like an easy recipe for high 10.0's..The Buicks are bad!

I absolutely love both cars, but you still have to be careful, because you never know when one of those cobras are packing a stock set up with a tune,or 700 hp with a KB or whipple.....

Turbo Regal...... hands down. Cheaper to mod, with more benefits. When you pull up to a Turbo Regal, you never know if its a 13 second stocker or 10 second monster!

See my mods below......... car responded very well to minimal mods....... tune tune tune is the secret:D

i have an 87 gn w/ mods in sig and my brother has an 03 cobra with just a catback and a cai. driven both cars. both fun, can't go wrong with either. if you like shifting gears go with the cobra, if not go with the gn. as for mod to mod the 03 cobra is easily in the same league with the gn. much easier to get the cobra into the 11s than the gn.stock for stock it's a full second difference so that is a pretty nice advantage. as for the 6152e and 60lb injectors putting u in the 10.80 range...don't count on it unless u have ALOT more work than just that. i had that exact setup after my gt3255e and before my current 6776dbb. the 61mm was not a high 10 sec car at all. gonna need at least ported irons and cam to dip in with that turbo, very unlikely with stock unopened block.

lets face it the cobras don't hook and they are heavier.they put out big numbers at the tires but my money is on the buick every time.those kenne bell superchargers last time i knew were not cheap at all.we raced a a 03 cobra last week that made 572 horesopower to the tire we went from a roll for his benefit and he still got beat by my buddies camaro by at least 6 cars the camaro only went 11.20 before. if you made 572 to the tire in a buick you would be in the low 10's not mid 11's like this cobra was.i have another friend with another 03 cobra made about 520 horespower to the tire and the best he ever got out of it was 11.60 and that was with a kenne bell ported blower and every other bolt on and a dynotune.better off with a buick easier to work on ,parts are cheaper, hooks up better, going up in value not down. i think the decision is easy

+cam, heads, fuel pump, etc, etc...10's are easy to bench race, but show me the time slips.....

I would stay with the Buick. I have not been impressed with the Cobra. It seems I beat everyone and I had minor mods. Now they sound awesome! Nothing like a set of flowmasters and a 5 speed Mustang. By the way, every other person on the street owns a Mustang, seems like.

MY ANSWER::: Mustangs and Camaro's are like AS$HOLES, everybody has one and dont draw any attention. Pull into a car show with your Buick and see how many people come running towards your car to check it out!!!

Thanx for all the responses. Jdpolzin, you are right. I had everyone looking at my GN when I had it. When I tell my mustang buddies that I had GN, they all say,"Why did you sell it?" Same reason I sold my 67 454 Camaro--I needed the money. Well this time, Im a little better off with a better job so things should be different.

Yeah, the Mustangs and Camaro's are good performers for the $$$ and you can make anything fast. I just like to have something different and rare!!! It's more fun that way! -----Jeremy

I've always heard them called rustangs, or in the case of my 93 5.0, 5.slows

I love the sound of the Cobra's 'charger whine, but when you get down to it, the Buick is lesslikely to get pulled over, more room, more "fear factor" from would be challengers, cheaper to mod. Plus, if you are going for all out performance, yes the auto has more parasitic drag, but do you REALLY thing you can shift faster than it? :D
BTW, I've heard of the Cobras throwing on some slicks and trashing their trans when they launched

Like i said,i am completely neutral on this, but i can say from personal experience, when i had my '03,it had a pulley, tune, cat back, high flow cats, cold air, tuner, and a 50 shot, and the results were 7.05@101 with a 1.58 60 ft,with the stock IRS,(in the 1/8th)on 26x11.5 et streets, slipping the clutch. It went 7.18@100 on stock size nittos. Now i will say this, you have to be able to really drive the sheet out of them.It seemed for every granny shift costs almost a tenth, and if the tires turned over you lost tenths. It was very finicky. With the stock irs,you couldnt just drop the clutch at 5k rpm's,you had to finesse it out,or you would snap a half shaft. My cobra done real well against LS-1 cars around my parts, but like i said,if the driver cant or wont drive the hell out of them,it hurts them something aweful.

Now what can you say negative about a turbo regal? Not much in my opinion. To me they were way ahead of their time,in regaurds to technology.I mean turbo+fuel injection+intercoolers, FROM THE FACTORY in the 80's!They are big, roomy and fast and easy to mod. They have class.

I'd take one of each,please!:D

Get a Turbo Regal. I work with 3 guys that have Mustangs, plus they have 3 or 4 friends that have them, gotta be different.

Well, 3.5 years ago I went to the dark side and no longer have any TRs after owning three over a 15 year period. Still had my mid-11 second WE4 for a year and a half while owning my '03 Cobra, but I just didn't drive it 'cause I was having WAY too much fun with the blower whine and shifting the 6 speed! I do miss TRs and may have one again someday, but I totally LOVE my Cobra. For the record, I've not been into my Cobra's motor and fully expect to trap at or above 130 mph this year. Yes, for same/less money, you could conceivably make a TR that fast too, that is not my argument. They are two totally different types of cars. As for the "Mustangs are like a$$holes" comment, seems to me that Regals were "like bellybuttons" in the 80's, but when you saw a GN, your head REALLY turned! Same thing with the Cobras: people KNOW it's no ordinary Mustang. I have many, many various brand owning friends, some of who truly dislike Fords, tell me how much they like my car. Say what you will, but that's my $.02 with hands on experience of both.

With slicks, the cobras are blowing out the rear diffs and halfshafts. I haven't heard of any cobra owners blowing up their trans. I had a GN then got an 03 cobra, sold the cobra and now in another GN. Ask yourself if you want to spend $25-30K for a cobra or you can get a super clean GN for $15-20K? The cobra is just raw power while the GN is a classy powerhouse. I wouldn't mind either car.

tell ya what, those cobras are NO joke, but ive still never seen a mustang beat a tr. and i do QUITE a lot of racing. and if im not racing, im watching it. the mustangs are a tad more reliable, have more experts to turn to, and have a TON of parts available. but i still think its easier to make a tr faster.
