Ok I am new to the tb world. I have a 87 gn that runs good but smokes at hot start up. So I am pulling the motor this winter and going to rebuild it. I would like to build this car to run 11.50 -11.80s. It has a hot wire kit, fuel pump, adjustable reg.,60# injectors, HV oil pump, 208 flat tappet cam, poston headers, TH down pipe, duel exhust, orange srtip converter, hotchkins rear upper and lower control arms. What should I keep and what should I buy? Thanks for any help.

A little more turbo and a better intercooler should be all you might need, you've got everything else.

while u have the heads off, do some porting (http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/pictureguides/heads/porting/intakeporting.html), bigger turbo, alcohol injection if it is street car, intercooler as stated above, sticky M/t DR's. and i think u'll be there! if u plan on goin any faster like 10's in the future, forged pistons, steel crank + two center billet mains + main studs, or just girdle the stock crank and studs.

thats just my opinion:)

DO NOT MESS WITH IT!!!!

The only thing you need is a bigger turbo and a nice IC makes it easier.

What if the smoke is coming from the current turbo? Get a new one. I had an Orange Stripe with a 60-1 HiFi and it spooled so good I'm sure it would work with much more turbo.

When I hear one of us say mid 11's, I know they will not be happy for long. Get at least a 63 and those RJC IC's look like some nice units and then when you are sure you need a rebuild, go for one of the stroker kits.

Might need some head work, but no need to rebuild if just some nice heads, maybe just some seals, or a turbo is letting some oil by
