Buying 4 New tires. What do I get?

I know theres a thread on the site somewhere about the rubber you guys put on GN's, I've looked everywhere and can't find it. Post a link to the thread, or send a recommendation to what i should get. I am looking for all around driveablity, good treadwear. I bought my GN with pepboy futura's and was incredibly dissapointed, had a blowout on the highway. Even if you can't make a recommendation, please post your current setup. I am using the stock 87 GN Wheels.

Specs on Michelin X-1's are tough to beat with that criteria.

If you've got more $ to spend, check out Michelin's Pilot series.

You'll have to choose what size/look you're after.
(Stock? Maximum for the wheel & wheelwell? In-between?)

My recommendation would be BF Goodrich 225/60s in front and 275/50s in back. If you want to rotate them I'd go with 235/60s all the way around.

thanks everybody for the quick replys, i am looking for a set of 4, for rotation purposes. Besides the obvious traction, is there an advantage for having wider rubber in the rear? (possibly handeling etc.)

Actually, I recently had an alignment done on my car and wanted wider tires on the car. Since i didn't want to change the diameter, the 235s were a good choice for me. Diameter changed from 26.0-26.1.

The BFGs are pretty common but I think their main avantage is price. They don't handle very well compared to a good Mich, Dunlop, Goodyear, etc.

I have some Firestone SXs which are a Bridgestone design that handle extremely well but they cost twice what a BFG costs. Tires are often a case where price does mean something, unfortunately.

I bought the Bridgestone Potenza S-03's based entirely on all the comparison reviews I read on ultra high performance tires (and they came in the size I wanted). But I really like them. MUCH more traction than the old BFG Radial T/A's I had and the BFG's couldn't even dream of handling as well. The way i saw it, I have slicks for the track, I wanted a tire that could handle on the street for normal driving.... Oh, I got mine through Tirerack.com and they really weren't that expensive compared to other tires of the same size.

Goodyear HP

I had Goodyear GT II's on the car, but after a road hazzard wiped out a side wall and was told these were discontinued, I ended up getting Goodyear HP 235/60/15's. Can't vouch for treadwear yet, but the cornering performance is there.

the futuras i had were 400, which means it'll take forever for them to wear down, while im pretty sure most drag slicks are around 80

I have 275/35ZR18's in the rear and 235/45ZR17's in the front. The hardest part was finding 18" tires with the diameter I wanted. But they do come in many other sizes though....

I really like my Michelin XGTH-4 Pilots. I have had BFG Radial T/A's on other cars and they are pathetic by comparison.

235/60/15 Michelin Pilots on the front and 275/50/15 Nitto Drag Radials on the back work well on salvageV6.

Good tires are a must for a daily driver.

I have 235/60's BFG's comp T/A's on my GN and BFG's radials T/A's on my T-Type, IMO the Comps looks better and offers better traction, but the radial T/A's are half the price as the Comps.

I have 225/60 Comp T/A's on the front and they have a ZR rating which is great, but they are directional which makes rotating them more difficult

The treadwear for the Goodyear Eagle HP's is 380, so they should make good for a few miles. Stamped right on the tire MADE IN THE USA... something I go out of my way to find these days...

Just so you know, I tried to order a set of BFG Comp T/A's in the above size a few months ago and was told this particular size was on national backorder. A subsequent call to Michelin (owns BFG) followed and was told this particular size was discontinued.
