Buying a 9.5 billet LU. from Greg Chomos.

I'm thinking about getting a 9.5 lu for my car.

Here's the question for the gurus. Dusty/ Bison and others please chime in.
Does 5,000 true stall and 3,500 brake stall sound about right for my combo??

I'm told it will have 4/5% slip, a 14 vane stator and a few things that they use for turbo and nitroused motors.

It is basically the converter in the pics below.

Normal take off should be around 2,400 rpm according to him.

I do believe some on this board have heard of this guy and he's very reputable.

The te62 needs at least 2800-3000@0 zero boost vacuum to work ok and not be too laggy. 2400 will be too low. I ran an 18 blade stator on a similar combo a couple years ago. I think it had 5-6% slip at 127mph

It will be around 3,200/3,500 at 0 boost vacuum brake stall.

2,400 is the take off under normal light throttle acceleration.

I called Dusty and left a message and got no call back. I'm looking to get one in the next week or two so I've been looking around.

Bison what HP/ TQ is my combo capable of if tuned right???
Does 550/580 sound like I'm in the ballpark???

Sorry I missed the call. Today was my only day off so I've been busy catching up on some spring cleaning.

My question would be what converter do you have now? I see the 2800 listed in your sig. If that is what your current converter stalls at 0 boost and this new converter really goes to 3200 you will gain spool up and loose efficiency. A very important piece of the puzzle is your desired et. What would you like to run? Also if your current converter is a real 2800 stall what are you wanting from the new converter?

I'm wanting a converter that will couple better at higher boost and stall a little higher to eliminate the off the line lag that I have.
I think that if I can get another 2/300 rpm at 0 boost it will be perfect.

The boost will go from 2/4# at 2,900 to 20# in less than a second once I get to 3,200rpm.

What I'm saying I guess is that this turbo comes alive at about 3,200 rpm.

I have no knowledge about the converter you are looking at but I can tell you that you can not go wrong with a converter from Dusty ! The drive-ablity from a PTC from Dusty is incredible.

I know everyone uses the PTC that Dusty has them tweak for your setup and is a good converter.

I can't seem to get a hold of Dusty and have left messages for him and he hasn't called me back.
I know he's a busy guy and all but I need to make a decision next week.

I like to go against the grain and try new territory, especially when this guy says he is the one who does the high end converters for PTC. They all use northstar technology with these converters and set them up for each customer is the only difference as far as I can see.

He will build one the way I want it and guarentee it to ET better than a PTC or my money back if I'm not happy no questions asked.

If I'm missing something someone please let me know as I'm no trans guy and have been going by what I've heard and learned through my own research.

Also the price is unbeatable, unless Dusty can get back to me I think I'm going to try Greg.

I just need to know what my HP/TQ is to get it right the first time, and since I haven't been on a dyno I was hoping Bison or someone would give me an idea of what the combo in my car should be making.

If he can build a converter better than a PTC 9.5" then he will become so busy he will need to hire several more people to work for him once the converters are proven. Fwiw I only ever made a click over 500whp on that combo in the 10.61@127.85 thread at 27psi. It was probably making about 550whp the night it posted that mph. Boost was around 30-31psi. I have heard of a couple making that much power (or more) on a 60-1 but never saw any proof or logging from the passes that qualified it. That engine was a hodge podge of "junk" I had laying around. The only expensive stuff there was the xfi and PTC 9.5" all else was either on the car or laying around in storage. I think I paid $600 for the engine in pieces.

It appears you have your mind made up already to try this new converter so I hope it works out well for you. However what you are asking of a 245mm core converter can't be had at your projected 10.50-10.80 power level unless you plan to spin it 6200+ rpm. For that application I would go non lock.

The reason most shops love that 245mm core is because you can go to the sonnax parts book or their website and pick out the pump and stator combinations needed to achieve a desired stall. All you need to know is the torque output of the engine and you can use the chart to see what pieces to use.

I'm not insulting you or PTC. I only stated what was told to me and was trying to see if anyone knew him or if he's BSing me.

I want to get the best converter I can, if you can provide me with that please return my call and we will discuss what I need.

The reason most shops love that 245mm core is because you can go to the sonnax parts book or their website and pick out the pump and stator combinations needed to achieve a desired stall. All you need to know is the torque output of the engine and you can use the chart to see what pieces to use.

I figured that. The problem is they won't couple on the high cylinder pressure engine with small can.

I with you on that. I'm under a timeline and need to get this done soon so when I take the trans out I only do it once if possible.

Maybe a callback within two weeks would be nice.

I'll get one if somebody would actually call me and discuss what would suit me.

Not hating on anyone on the board but I've already had issues with things I've already bought off the vendors on the board.

Getting a callback seems to be a common thread when dealing with vendors on here.

Days between responses is understandable, weeks of waiting isn't. I'm not going to keep leaving messages, I'll just move on if people don't want my buisness and money.

I drive my car [DD] and when it's down after spending alot of money on a new part [not going to be specific] it gets frustrating.

#2 techsupport/free advise This applies to all vendors. WHEN YOU GET A HOLD OF THEM [YES]

#3 Supports the board and community. YES No question about it. Every vendor here does that in spades.

I do realize that these people are busy, but so am I and if you're the only game in town you can get away with slow callbacks, especially if you've already bought a product and you're trying to keep up with new sales and are backlogged all the way around.

I understand all that and try to be patient, and work with everyone that I do buisness with.

When I do get someone on the phone it's all great, professional, informative and helpful.

If this area could be addressed I would have no quams at all.​
