I'm in the market for my second GN. I sold my first one about 5 years ago and now I have the itch again. Do you guys think it would be a good idea to wait and try to get something at the Nationals in Bowling Green in May? Are there a lot of clean cars 4 sale at this event. I'm not looking for anything in mint condition just don't want something that has been abused for years or taken apart a dozen times.

Thanks,
Patrick

There are always a lot of cars at BG for sale. It isn't a bad place to look, just be carefull you don't "impulse" buy something just because you are there. It is helpful as you can look at cars from all over without driving thousands of miles to look at different cars.

Here's what I would like to get, you tell me if this is possible. 87 GN with some tasteful mods like a turbo, fuel pump, scanmaster, downpipe, exhaust. Mileage somewhere around 100k(hopefully less). Power options, a/c, cruise. Paint not a big deal and decent interior. I have around 10k to spend. Is this something I can get at Bowling Green?

be patient and study the market...

If you can't get it at BG, then be patient, sometimes you can get great deals, depends who else is looking, sometimes prices are inflated, just need to know the market... I saw a great deal and let it go, bought some extra parts, and now see the same parts for less... write it down as a reference, do you have a trailer, you can always rent one too...

I have 87 GN hard top 88k, purchased for $6k March 4, 2008, no rust and body is excellent condition, needs 4 bumper fillers, and new paint, purchased 3 inch dual exhaust ss polished cat back, new TA49, new chip, lots of new bolt on parts, I now understand it is a money pit... hobby, ummmm, it is fun, can't wait to see it finished...

The more knowledge you have and where the market is, the better deal and money saved...

I saw my GN#2 on ebay, it looked sweet and in excellent condition, BUT it was not as good as shown, needed turbo, and ac fan blower not working, the hood is the worst I have ever seen, the brakes were gone completely, 2 legs needed for test drive, what might be driver to one person, is not a driver for another, can you handle less than perfect... It is so much nicer to be able to touch it and drive it...

From what you guys are seeing, is the market strong? Can I get what I'm looking for with the budget I have of around 10k? Will Bowling Green offer me the best chance to find a clean car at a decent deal?

I'm not in any hurrry to buy I was thinking that the Nationals would be a good opportunity to look at cars and check them over.

If you guys are looking to buy a GN, what are some things I should look for and really check out when buying? I know the car I had the rear main seal leaked and that seems to be pretty common in a lot of these cars.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Patrick
