Mark, where do all the rings go in my kit? Are the white/red spotted rings different than the black ones? It just seems like there are sooo many?
I have the output shaft, low reverse clutch, front sun gear and input drum and front carrier all in place locked with the snap ring.
I have not used any of the teflon rings as yet (correct) so they all must go on after these assemblies?

Just don't want to get too far ahead and find out I should have used them?

Not to butt in but,

You'll have 5 small teflon rings {about the size of your ring finger}. 3 go on the input shaft and 2 go on the intermediate shaft {also known as the fwd clutch drum}.

Then you'll have 3 big ones { could be white with red dots or white with black dots} these go on the center support.

:D

Mike is correct Paul, If you still have any questions, give us a call at the shop and I will get you with Bruce if needed. Thanks, Mark

Mark, they go no other places than center support, input shaft and intermediate shaft? Why does there seem to be so many extra?
No where else then huh?

Thanks

paul

Another question for you, do I use the solid rings as opposed to the angle cut ones that are used from factory in all places?

Does anyone have a picture/sketch of exactly where these are used? It would not only help me but others as well. I need to know where the solid rings go vs the split ones.

Thanks for all your help with my rebuild.

Mark, I will probably have to call you on Thurs. to go thru this with you. In case I could not maybe you could try to respond in this post.
Or anyone else who might be able to help.

paul

I used solid on the input, center support,& forward. They are kind of a PITA to fit cause you have to shrink em back down after you install.
If you can't get em by hand try a hose clamp with a strip of pop can under the clamp so you don't gouge the teflon.

Jim, what is the trick to putting these things on. Can you overstretch them?
If they have a couple bumps in them after install will this be a problem? When I shrunk them down on forward clutch shaft I didn't have a band to go around all the way so on either side there is bumps that didn't compress.

What do I ask for locally if I need to replace these and get many extra? Is there a P/N or size for these? Thanks for the help guys.

tip

Right or wrong, this is the way I resize the teflon rings. Any machine shop will have .010-.020 shim stock. Cut a piece long enough to wrap around the shaft at least twice. Use this along with the rad. clamps as 77 cruiser suggested.

MARK

Mark, still waiting for my two center support bushings that were not in my rebuild kit. When were they sent out? Please advise when and how. Thanks
