What exactly happens to these sensors when they fail to work any longer?

Over a period of time of being used do they gradually loose their magnetic sensitivity capability to sense the reluctor ring passing thru them by the signal getting weak or do they all of a sudden just stop working?

I have a spare cam sensor cap (used) and i installed it on my new cam sensor assembly and connected my cam sensor setting tool and rotated the shaft and the LED light will come on and go off ,would it be safe to say the used cam sensor cap is good and ok to use and still keep as a spare?

Thanks in advance to all who reply.

The cam sensor can still be bad even if the tester blinks , I just went through that last week with a cam sensor doing the same thing and it was bad when running .My TR6 found the problem for me

Thank you so much. I was thinking it may be that way but wasn't quite sure.

I'm going to install the new cam sensor assembly probably tomorrow and i'm going to use the used cam sensor cap just to see if it is actually still good, since it only takes a few minutes to install and remove if it is bad.

Thanks again for the help.

When my cap was going bad it would break up at about 15 #'s of boost. It ran fine in all other ranges, just when you went WOT was when the problem occurred.

Mine acted different , mine would crank up and run a few minutes then would start running terrible under a small engine load and was hesitating and misfire and my spark plugs were real fat looking also .
