Cam sensor tick

I've done lots of searching and found lots of threads about cam sensor tick but nothing about the repair.
I used a stethoscope and my ticking noise is definitely my cam sensor, I took the cap off the sensor and it is all cracked on the top.
Has anyone been down this road before?
The car is untouched with 114000km on it so I know its time for the timing chain to be done, that will be this winters project.
But if I put the stethoscope on the timing cover I don't hear anything, only on the cam sensor cap. Noise goes away when hot.

When I heard ticking further investigation led to to timing chain replacement.
