Ok I was driving home yesterday from getting my transmission worked on again, and about 15 miles from home my knock guage starts going ape s#!t. I got over 300 knock counts in those 15 miles and never got over 1/4 throttle. I didn't hear anything in the engine until I got the car home and popped the hood, I heard what sounded like a loud lifter tap in the upper part of the engine from what sounded like the passenger side of the car. I had the same oil pressure that I have always had, 15psi at hot idle and about 45-50psi t 60mph. I have taken both valve covers off and checked all the valve-train parts for anything broken and nothing is. I took out the plugs and spun the motor and the cam seems to be ok judging from the movement of the rockers. I dropped the oil and other than the very fine particles on the magnetic plug tip (and I mean a very small amount) the oil looked normal, no metal at all suspended in the oil, I checked it under a light. I tightened the toque converter bolts again just to make sure. I don't have the slightest clue as to what is going on, I have heard that the cam sensor can make this happen if the cap is worn out. I have heard the cam sensor, broken piston skirt, broken wrist pin, worn out wrist pin bushing, and rod bearing. My motor has less than 6000 miles on a major rebuild which includes a girdle, hard to pull the pan now! Please help me if you can because I want to take my car to Bowling Green and I only have 2 days to fix it if I want to keep my original schedule.

Thanks

Try replacing the cam sensor

i just bought my GN a few weeks ago so i don't know a whole lot about em',but i did just replace my cam sensor.before i changed it out it would make a loud rattling noise under accleration,i thought it was the air scoop because it was loose and missing half the bolts that hold it on.If you have a new motor changing it would probably be a good idea.

new GN owner:

Where are you located, always nice to see another GN in the area. I am located just outside philly. If you need help with anything (parts, advice, etc...) e-mail me or give me a call....Thanks

O yea take a long 3/8" extension and place it on top the cam sensor and hold the extension to your ear. If you can here a dink dink dink sound through it there is play in the sensor and the drive or the hole thing should be replaced. They usually ware out around 80K to 90K.

Hope this helps...:)

Thanks for the replies but we found the problem, #5 lifter beat to hell on the exhaust side. I guess its time to look for another cam.
