hey guys 9 years ago i bought a tci street fighter trans and put it in my camaro, drove it 20 feet then pulled the motor. Trans is brand new but sat for 9 years, now i need a trans for my t-type. I'm not sure if the seals would dry up or not and i dont have the funds for a rebuild. Any info would be great Thanks, Curt

After 9 years I would be worried. As it sits now, the tranny would still most likely work, but the seals and clutch discs wouldnt be long for this world. The seals would more than likely start to leak/lose pressure in a very short order. The friction material on the clutch discs is probably dried a little too, which would work for awhile, but you'd quickly start to lose holding power. I wish I had a better answer, but I've seen that happen a few times...ask me how I know

Thanks for the info. Guess i have to start saving money for a rebuild now:rolleyes: Curt

I would use it as is, lots of low mileage 20+ year old cars have the original trans working well.

My 1987 T-Type has only 9K miles with only less than 1000 of those in the past 12 years, will still break the tires loose!:)

Is this a 700R4 or a 2004R? Doesn't affect the answer to your specific question but I hope you realize those two cars didn't come with the same trans. Either can be made to fit but with only a few posts on the board it's hard to know if you know that or not.

I'd use it, fill with plenty oil to soak everything . As long as it has been stored indoors will be fine. No different to one that has been in my rearely driven car for many years , it still runs sweet .
