Can anyone suggest some things for me to do to the TH700r4 in my truck to make it....

Shift better? The truck currently has 120k miles on it. The fluid is cherry red, but I have no idea if it has been rebuilt before. The shifts feel very soft/mushy. I have been debating trying to tighten up the TV cable on it to bump the line pressure.
The thing is I use this truck to tow my Buick and I dont want to hurt the trans. Is there a shift improver kit I could add?
