I want to change my motor mount soon (HRpartsNstuff :) ), but I'm worried that jacking up the engine by the oil pan will cause the gasket to leak. The engine is all original and it's a 14 bolt pan, so it doesn't have those nice dimples on it. (I don't have an engine hoist.)

Someone suggested jacking it up using a floor jack and a peice of wood under the balancer. Will this be OK?

Thanks!

...ooooohhh....noooo

I wouldn't do that. Hard on the crank snout...hard on the balancer....and an invitation for (more) front seal leaks.

Use a piece of wood across the oil pan to spread the load and crank it up carefully.

NOOOO!!!!

Use a board across the oil pan, or attach a cherry picker/hoist to the top of the engine.
