Are they pieces of crap? Would I spend a million bucks, like my GN, getting it running? My neighbor has one for sale with 55,000 miles for $8000. There are sooo many smart people on this board and I really am a beginner when it comes to cars. Thanks guys!

If it is clean and the miles are original BUY IT!!!!!! It is a steal if it is right...

"If" the economy ever comes back that will be a 13K+ car...

I have 2, and paid more than that for both of them:mad:

I got a 96 with 64K original that I thought I got a deal on. I got $11,500 in the car and if ANYBODY wants it for that they can come get it;)

I was joking about the garbage can behind the impala in that one picture lol

Nice pic. Not a fan of the gn exhaust on the monte but it definitely has the same paint/interior.

All of your cars are very clean.

There was a local impala ss with a leather wrapped cage with swingouts, bogart wheels, excellent paint, etc. It was a 9 second impy on spray. I can't seem to find the pics of it or I would have posted. Maybe someone else knows.

i didn't think the 3" pipes would look good coming out the back so i did them like a gn,that car ran a consistant 10.43 on motor every time,383 with corillo rods, callies crank and afr heads with 410's and a turbo 400 with no weight reduction.are you selling your ss?

Guess I like the factory look. Gn behind tire exhaust, monte ss rear exit. When I see the gn's with rear exit it encourages more monte ss comments to the gn guys and the same thing in return to the monte guys. Mine has 3 inch mandrel true dual with h pipe sounds awesome and I think it looks good too!

Sweet. That fast on all motor? I thought you had to put a lc2 in it to make a g body fast

Not selling mine. Driving it and enjoying it. Mods are occassional.

They look like upside down bathtubs

Buy one with the Cop Search Light feature at auction for $2,000

96's were full gauge cluster vs digital on 94-95. Obviously floor shift w/ console vs column shift. Didnt know about the computer change to OBDII, but it does make sense. The other big difference is the rear quarter windows. 94-95 had a plastic piece with the emblem on it to cover the "caprice" pointed quarter window. 96's the body/quarter panel and glass was changed and looked much better IMO.

8 grand, 55K miles, Id buy it right now and sell my WE4...............

NICE cars, dad had a slightly modded low mile car about 10 years ago, but sold it. Seats "by lazyboy", decent power, and fun factor make them great cars.

95 and 96 got the different 1/4 window. 94 has the sharp point 1/4 window with the insert, and the mirrors on the door skin. 95 and 96 have the mirrors on the door pillar. 94 and 95 were OBD1. 96 is OBD2, but they are easy to convert.
I think the 94 being the fastest is debatable. My 96 ran 14.54 with only a K&N intake. Most other Impala's at the track at the time were running low 15's with more done to them.

Had a '96 for eight years (bought new). Really hated to sell, but it got to where I hated the cheap squeaky plastic interior panels and the front seats are absolute junk if you have a bad back.

i wouldn't pay that much fr a retired cop car- keep an eye out, and you can get detective cars for $1500 or less. they tend to be in better shape than the patrol cars. the 94 i had was an ex CHP car that somehow wound up in MN- it had a "property of CHP" sticker in the doorjam. i could tell that there had been a lot of repair work done on the car- the entire front clip had been replaced at some point, and the whole car was covered with small dents and dings. but it still drove straight and ran great with zero oil consumption after i replaced the oil cooler lines, and it always started even in the coldest MN days.
i bet i'd still be driving that car if i had just gotten a junkyard trans for it back in '04 instead of parting it out.. but i've still got the motor out in the garage..

i saw that someone up above mentioned the fading odometer problem.. i found the fix for it. i took the cluster out, cleaned up all the contacts with a pencil eraser, bent the tabs up a little bit, and put it back together. i had the car for 2 years after that, and the odometer never went dim again.

I owned a black 96 SS for about 4yrs, one of best riding cars i have owned.
Big boat mushy feel but handled well for what it was. I had a few major troubles, a bent valve from the factory, warranty fix. The A/C evaporator box poped a door and cracked the box, never seen that happen,,warranty fix and a harmonic balancer that spun around the rubber when wet, thats a weird feeling to lose steering when you hit a puddle of water, this one took a while to diagnose, also warranty fix. The only thing a can say the must be done routinely is the differrential fliud change with L/S additive about every 20K, rear end starts growling around corners if you don't. ..
The rear quarter windows were also diiferent from 94 to 96..The 94's were pointed at the lower rear corner and 95/6's had a rounded rear corner which looked better!

I think they're good everyday family cars to drive around, but in no way a performance car, being too heavy. Even if you succeed in going fast with them, you'd still would have gone faster if you spent the same money into a lighter car.

Claude.

I traded my 96 DGGM in at a Toyota dealership in RI for my WE4 last October. That was kinda weird but they had the WE4 and were willing to deal, and I wanted a Buick again so it worked out.

I liked the Impala, didn't put many miles on it but it was fun.It may have been big but with those tires on it she handled fairly good. Had a nice sounding Flowmaster exhaust that really growled when you'd drop her down and wind her up!

Things I didn't like were the door panel parts(cheep and flimsy but expensive to replace) and the opti which can be a problem.Last I knew most people on impalassforum.com said an original GM optispark was the best replacement, other makes were unreliable and had more problems than the opti.

Had I used the car for what I bought it, I'd still own it. Thinking I wanted a fun fast V8 4Door everyday car and a so so pick up for work/home depot and dump runs didn't end up working for me. The girlfriends car was always parked in front of the SS, and the last thing I wanted to do 1st thing in the morning was jockey cars around.

So if I was going to have a car I didn't use/need as an everyday car I wanted a Buick again,I bought a new truck and was able to trade the SS. I wouldn't be afraid to get one again and that sounds like a good deal, if you have the money I say go for it! Like SGRIM said if the economy comes back you should make out well.

Mechanicaly they are very good cars.

My 95 LT-1 Fleetwood runs great, gets 16-17 city and 25-26 highway. I bought the garage queen Caddy with 53K miles for $6K.

Electrically my caddy is a nightmare. I don't trust it going around the block. I don't know about the Impalas. Who ever let the engineers put that opti-spark system in should be shot.

The Caddy is almost as high maintenance as my T.

I’ve always liked the cars but I’ve never been in one. I saw one on the side of the road for sale here locally so I stopped just for fun. It’s a 94 and they are asking $6,500. It’s got 240,000 miles.

Ive had an SS for the past 7 or 8 years and love them. Here are a couple pics of my car.I know yall may think the wheels are too big but they are just the right size for me.She runs some mid to low 13's with the 22's and 600 lbs of audio in the trunk. Not bad for a 5k plus boat.
