ive been having a problem with getting my boost below 19 pounds. i have a manual boost controller on it and it is all the way down. If i turn the actuator out any more, it starts to spool very slow and then it still ends up at 19 pounds. Yesterday i just installed an RJC front mount and the boost is now at 25 pounds. i cant get it any lower with out it spooling slow. I have the regular internal adjustable wastegate. the weird thing is that the car doesnt seem to knock or pull timing with this much boost even on 93 octane. i dont understand.

Thanks

Hello Jesse.
Do you know what wastegate actuator you have? Is it a Standard spring or Heavy Duty spring actuator? Typically the HD actuator has a low setting starting at around 18psi. The Standard spring wastegates typically can be adjusted to around 14-17psi pretty easily for a low setting. There should be some numbers on the wastegate actuator itself that will define which actuator you have.
Also, you can normally get away with running higher boost levels with the addition of a front mount intercooler. On iron headed applications, I could typically run 19-20psi on true 93 octane pump gas. 25psi is a little much for 93 octane gas tho.
Let me know if I can help.

boost

wehn i bought the actuator, the guy said he gave me the one that i should be able to run 14-17 pounds easy but be able to turn it up no problem. but i cant turn it down, it just slows my spooling. why do you think im not getting a ton of KR with so much boost?

Thanks
Jesse

Well, my first question would be, when the motor was rebuilt, how tight was the knock sensor tightened into the block? If the knock sensor is over tightened, it might not pickup the knock that the engine maybe encountering
When the wastegate actuator is adjusted so that it actually causes the puck to open, this will lead to your slow spooling condition. I would be willing to bet that you have a Heavy Duty wastegate actuator. If your actuator has this part number on it, 1011-144, then it is a Heavy Duty actuator. If the part number is a 1011-673, then it is a Standard spring actuator and there might be something else causing the problem.
Hope this helps a little.
