my 85 is burning way to rich. it only seems to do it at idle.if i let the car idle more than 30 seconds i hear a click than the idle kicks way down and the car runs real choppy and the check engine light comes on.if i push on the gas it goes back out does anybody have a clue any help would be great thanks in advance... rob

I had the same problem. The check engine light would intermitently come on and off and at times the cars idle is a little rough. Busted out my old-school Snap-On Scanner and check for codes. mines was reading code 22 meaning my TPS was giving low voltage. i was reading .20V +/- instead of .40V. Simply readjusted the TPS to .40V. I couldnt erase the code from the scanner so I just removed the negative battery terminal and never seen the check engine light since.

Check codes, as already said.
Maybe MAF, Module, Coil?
If code is 22 (TPS), besides adjustment, check the wires to the TPS plug.
The wires on mine right at the plug to the TPS have been hacked up and cut enough in the past (inorder to set TPS prior to scanmaster, etc.) that it has been getting weak signals lately. My TPS is set at .42, but every now and then it will go down to .12! I move the wires around and it goes back up and the check engine light goes out.
Also, to reset the computer and clear codes, just unplug the ECM plug over by the battery for a minute or two (looks just like O2 sensor plug, but with orange wire and goes directly to battery).

34 is MAF sensor code, 44 is lean 02 reading...

seems maybe you have a bad MAF, rich at idle, lean at cruise....
