How many car dealers or wholesalers do we have on this board?

I am in a pinch, I have sold the majority of my cars off the lot and need a new source for inventory.

I have worked the sales all my life and try to avoid them as you are usally buying other dealers problems;)

I am looking a network of guys to hook up with from all over. We all know how inventory prices can change due to location, what is hot here maybe cold in your area etc....

Just looking, holla at me:biggrin:

I'd love to help you Shane, I use to buy cars for Carmax in ATL. I've been out of the buying for a while but would like to get back in it. I do have a good friend that works for Manheim, maybe he can help. Have the local auctions in your area been low on inventory too? PM me your top 10 sellers and I can try to check some out. Thanks Michael

2 of my best friends own dealerships locally.

1) a Dodge/Jeep dealer and he struggles every month.

2) A Used car lot with "above average" nice used cars and he makes money hand over fist. He prices them high cause they are better than most in the area and holds his price. Of course he has been very successful and he doesn't "have to sell" anything cause he has his own money tied up and no banker breathing down his neck.

I can probably hook you up with some nice trucks from the Midwest, I bet if ya got 3 on a goos-neck you could even average the freight so it would work.

I've worked with my Grandfather & Uncle over the years, off and on from the late 80's, at Midgette Auto Sales, they are located 1/2 mile right before you go across the bridge to the Outer Banks, of NC in a little town call Harbinger. I started out just washing cars, then moved up to hauling them, and did some wholesaling in the mid 2000's, in 2007 I was his service manager at his repair shop, but about 2008 the market was so bad he shut his service shop down and the wholesaling market was so tough I had to find another line of work. I tried to get to the auctions every now and then but working a full time job and trying to get to the auctions just didn't work out. I haven't been to an auction in almost over a year. Like you said most of the time you are buying some other dealers problem. I worked auctions, up and down the East coast from PA to SC and being on the road 5 and 6 days a week, living out of a duffel bag gets old REAL QUICK! Some times it was fun but most of the time it sucked! I've tried buying stuff from craigslist or trading post but that's a tuff deal too. Hoping the market will come back a little one day and I can pick up a car here and there to make some side cash.

I only live about 45 mins from the nearest Manheim Auction. Have an independent auction 10 mins from the house:biggrin: I am starting online bidding monday with Manheim so I will see how that goes!!! Auctions are just not what they used to be, I have done this my entire life so I have seen it all... Keep me in mind if you ever get back in the business!!!!!

Shane i got a guy that ive done hauling for in mid michigan that has a dealers license and he bids and buys cars from all over the country a lot from copart...He charges $25 to bid for you and $200 to do the paperwork once you win..He used to bid for free but guys wanted him to bid on 10 different cars for waaay under going price therefore wasting his time....Pm me and ill give you details if you want....

Me and a buddy have been talking about doing this for 2 years now, but haven't pulled the trigger. Neither of us really know anyone that can show us the ropes. We both work about 10 mintues from the Manheim Auction in Matteson, IL. Never seen so many cars in one place in my life!

These are strange times in the used car business, for sure. We are seeing the same short inventories and sky high prices--even for junk--that seem to be evident elsewhere. We are working in South Louisiana, and our economy is still moving along at a decent pace. There is a lot of demand for cars, but slim inventories and high prices. This has been the story for a few years now. Local auctions and factory sales, alike. Thanks, Counterman.

Can you move 2wd trucks? That's about the only thing my boss's don't like trading for. That and the occasional oddball import stuff. No one out here runs imports, most of it is traded for from an autotrader deal and sold to someone out of town on an autotrader deal. We used to have a wholesaler come by and make offers, but he only bought the old beaters and they almost had to give them to him. They decided to wholesale the beaters to the employees instead :) so I have an endless source of three digit price tag daily beaters. We no longer auction or wholesale ANYTHING! else, but i'd bet they could be convinced to ship out a few imports and 2 wheelers.

The used car market did a 180 degree turn from about 07 to 09. We used to move program cars like crazy, now they are worth almost as much as new so we can't get any bought. So it is actually a good time to be a new vehicle dealer out here.

I have an 2005 Lexus RX330, loaded,tvs in headrests, 54K on it.
20K if your interested.

We buy off of manheim in dallas and dealers auction in OKC. We only buy off of certain lanes to avoid buying other dealers junk/problems. Usually the GMAC/Ford/Daimler-chrylser/Nissan etc lanes will give you a week or so guarantee if the car is sold on a green light. We do PSIs on all of our vehicles - yeah its an extra $75 but its saved our butts numerous times. Ive bought a few thru simulcast and havent had any problems except one time my father in law was at the sale in person and we were bidding against each other on the same car. Also ive noticed that they over do it on the condition reports and the cars arent as bad as the reports make them seem.

I have my salesmans liscense but I dont mess with it very often. My inlaws own the dealership (rather small) and my wife runs it. I just help out sometimes when Im off.
