So now Im really thinking about dropping the tranny first. So you guys recommend doing a complete rebuild, but will the worn parts be that obvious when I tear it aprt or is there still a chance it can be the tq?

I have went threw a few transmissions and it sucks. I feel your pain. I have also taken them out and put them in on my back and that is no fun. If its out and you got the money do it right so you dont have to do it again.

Yes. There is still a chance that it is the torque. Even so, the trans should be completely disassembled, cleaned and checked for wear to bushings and thrust washers. Probably metal embedded in the friction elements too.

So once I pull the trans out, can you tell by looking at the tq if it needs to get cut and cleaned? For example, could the fluid in the tq be a clue to whats inside. And if we find say the "damaged" part, would it be safe to assume the tq is good if the filter caught everything and the fluid in the tq is clean? Money is tight and dont feel like dumping too much money into her right now.

It doesn't quite work that way. There is so much debris, both the trans and converter will have to be gone through.

Even if the converter has an issue the entire circuit would be contaminated. Be sure to replace the transcooler before re-installation. They are notoriously difficult to clean out. If you don't you minds well not bother with a new converter or tranny rebuild.

Trans cooler? Whats that? No, I just have the stock trans cooler running in the radiator, have not yet upgraded to an external. But either, I guess the best route is to send the tq off to get rebuilt and re-do the trans with a billet drum....... the wife aint gonna like this!
