I was looking at the results and yes the GT won by one point but thier points system seems ok till I saw the "Got to have it factor".

It beat the Goat by 7 points 25 to 18 in the "Got to have it factor" , but 100 more hp is only worth 2 points?

I saw a Black 04 going down the road and people may say it looks dull but I liked it. Most people would say our GN's look dull too.

If they start "giving away" the 05's like the 04's I may have to figure out a way to get one.

There is a black GT for sale on base here (new). The sticker says 27,4something. Is this how much they go for in the states? Seemslike a lot for a mustang

The GTO is soo much nicer on the inside.
It starts out with 100HP more.

I am not saying the Mustang is not a nice car, but take
away the price difference and I would take the GTO any day.

This article reminds me of when the last generation mustangs minus the cobra were rated higher than the LS1 Bodies.

The mustang is a better bang for the buck and has more aggressive styling.

Which car you want is more about what you really want out of th car.

Bland Style, more hp, more heavy and more expensive.
This sounds like the 86/87 TR compaired to the mustangs.

I saw a dyno of a stone stock 05 GTO and it was right at 350rwhp/tq. Not too shabby for a N/A car with an auto.:D

I think an 05 GTO with exhaust work,a converter, 100 shot of gas and a tire would be a VERY low 11 sec car. May not even need the converter?

I wonder how strong the rear ends are?

The 05 GT comes with the 31 Spline axles so I'm sure it is quite strong. I went 10s on the 28 Splines a few times without breaking them so I'm sure it would hold up. I don't think that is a fair comparison because of the big dollar difference. They should compare the 04 Cobra vs the GTO and see what happens in every performance category.

Any car has potential with the right amount of $$. I went 10s quite easily with a 99 GT with a couple of weeks work and most of that was waiting for the DFI to be tuned. I would get an 04 Cobra first before the GTO.

thats all fine and dandy (about the gto)

but its still butt ugly

the thing has no shape, it could pass for a ford taurus

GTO = Rental car

I'm still trying to figure out when you saw a dyno sheet for a stock 05 GTO? I belong to a few LS1 boards and none of them have seen ANY 05 GTOs and barely have any pictures of it. The dealers barely have any ordering information. I'm having a hard time believing you just happened to see a dyno sheet for an 05.

The sales of the previous models have been horrible so GM cut production on the 04s. I hope they have better luck with the 05s. I have seen 04s just sitting so prices should drop alot in the near future

04s have really picked up sales in the past few months as prices are finally around msrp or a little lower at most places. There are a few dynos of 05s that have been posted i believe mostly by shops if i remember right. I believe in the ls2 section of ls1tech.com there is a post regaurding this. Here is the dyno graph

I don't know if its true as i can't seem to find the post now, it used to be a sticky. Oh well i think its about right on for a car rated at 400 flywheel.

Im liking the GTO more after seeing this article. The interior has always been sexy as heLL and the powertrain is sweet .. BUT that body.. its just so boring.. It growing on me but still its just a bigger cavalier. my friens just ordered a new GT and its expected in early March. Ill give ya a full report then :)

I never said that you made it up. I just have a hard time believing that dyno numbers from a production 05 GTO are available when the cars are not. Forgive me because I don't believe everything I see on the internet.

The numbers are definitely where they should be for a stick car, but with an auto with 17-20% driveline loss, that would mean that car has about 430+ crank hp. That would also mean a stick car is going to be making over 450 hp at the crank.

I will be happy to see exactly what people are getting once they are off the lots. I have seen a few 04 GTO'S track times in the 13.80s @ 102-103 mph so I would expect the 05s to still be in the 13s. It's not like they added 50 rwhp to a 3200 lb car.

The 04s in the hand of a typical GTO owner is a mid to high 13 second car, but with the weather cooled down there have been a a good group of 13.1-13.25s at 104+ on ls1gto.com. Hell MMFF got a 13.4 at 105 out of one a ways back. I have seen 2 test of the 05 in rags and one was a 13.0 at 108 and the other was close to the same at 109. With a well driven stick they are going to be high 12s at 111 or so about with your average 03-4 cobra that is bone stock. Both those trap speeds of the mags show the potential for 12s. But we'll have to see.

Whatever. I guess that the Buick Regal was a car completely different than any other on the road

Calling it ugly, well its not. It might not be flashy. But we could say the same thing as the Turbo Buick's....

Very true. Pontiac claimed 13.5 for the '04 GTO. Many people are seeing better times than that. Its a hard car to launch, I can tell you that. Took 4 trips to the track to finally launch the thing right. Hardest car I've ever owned to learn to launch...

Pontiac is claiming 13.0 for the '05 GTO. One magazine has gone 12.9 but it hasn't been to print yet. There will be many more high 12 second GTO's once they finally get here.

heres some pics of the 05 GTO the first comes with the new sport package and the second is the regular 05. Both look pretty good but i would take the spoiler off both:D And if you want a good size poster of them just pick up the new hotrod as there is a cool one of the 1st pic on there and on the back is a black 05 doing a burn out. It claims "the 1st 4.6 seconds of the rest of your life" on it.....4.6-60 is haulin

1 think 13.40-50ish will be the norm for 04's once they are broken in.

My old 98 WS6(when stock) was a mid 13 sec 103mph car when new but after it had like 12k miles on it 13.2x@ 106.x was the norm.

You could have fooled me!

It's not like I said I beat a Cobra or something.

20% drive line loss is a bit much.

15% would put it at 402 flywheel.

It's got 24 more cubes, better heads&cam and a good bit more compression.
