what do you guys think about buying a s-10 blazer zr2 model for a 16 year old girl as a first car?i found a really good deal on one but not real sure if it would be very safe for a first car

Pontiac Grand Prix. They are attractive, a little sporty, and that 3800 V6 will last forever! I have a 2000 GTP version with the supercharged 3800 and it has 200k miles on it. Runs like a champ! But if she is in to trucks then S10's are nice. I don't know what year however.. Oh and the GPs are CHEAP!!

its a 2002 zr2 blazer 4x4 ,ill post a pic of what it looks like, but the one i am looking at is black

I looked it up. They S10's are nice trucks! If she likes trucks go with the S10. If not find something she likes. Its pretty much up to her right? Or are you doing it as a surprise?

I had a ZR2 Blazer some years back. It was a good vehicle, but they have a rather high center of gravity which makes them a bit more prone to roll-over.

Good choice...full frame, cheap to maintain, so so on MPGs. Bothmy son and daughter started driving in one. Remember, they WILL wreck it, or bruise it, so prepare for the oh sh!t moment when she says "Daddy....".
IMO the GP is perfect after they get experienced,I got my son an 06 in 08 for a great price and then passed it down to the girl after a year when he stepped up to a Tundra 4x4. (he's now driving ole blue..94 Toyota 4x4 and hating it:D (job hopping).

scot,how about i just give her yours.lmao
mine is at richard clarks getting a motor built and painted, hope to be getting it back soon

better have it checked out...

Bought mine new in '98. Lots of things to look at. Check for the usual intake manifold leaks due to the dex-cool crap. These are notorious for leaks there. Mines been fixed twice. First time before the factory warranty ran out. It's not a matter of if, but when. Check the oil cooler lines. They love to leak. I've replaced one of mine twice, the other three times so far. Front end suspension. Again, notorious for problems. Everything on mine was replaced at about 75K. Had my steering gearbox replaced at about 25K. Hope it doesn't have a sunroof. Those have problems once they get some use. Better buy a new seat recliner mechanism. Done mine twice I think. Rear leaf springs. Can you say junk? Three leaf springs were not enough for it's heavy ass end. Mine was sagging two inches when it was only a few years old. Got new GM springs and had to have another leaf added. Not enough. Added air shocks just to get it to set level. Height should be about 36" from ground to bottom of fender flair at center of wheel, all four corners. Hope you're not looking for good gas mileage. The 4.3 in that thing sux... :D
Need any tips or pointers, just ask. ;)

<edit>
Forgot to add, check the door hinge pins too.

A great first car...

In your area of the country, I would buy her a Subaru Legacy AWD. I have had 2 of them and pretty much nothing has gone wrong with either. I put tires and a exhaust on one and had to replace a radiator in the other along with the tires. They can be had very reasonable. Look for a mid to late 90's. There should be no rust in your area of the country and all Subaru models have the brake lines and fuel lines in the body of the car, not underneath, so they dont rust. Pull the fuse and its a front wheel drive only. If the weather gets bad, pop it back in and you have AWD. Dont know of many young ladies that would not like the small but sporty looks. Add a wing to the trunk, or most come with one. They make a TURBO model as well, and it flies...

Japanese or not, nothing is made in China and they are built in USA.

first car? something ugly, big, slow, and gets horrible gas mileage.
but most important- cheap.
she wants better or needs gas money, that's what jobs are for.

Get something good on gas, if you deal with snow, then maybe a subaru, Gas is only going to go up, but hey, Im looking to buy a GN and I already own a full size SUV and a 2000 Trans Am WS6. Definitley see what she likes. My first car was a 92 S10 Blazer, I liked it.

Buy a full size truck, install a bucket seat in the drivers side ONLY. Lay a roll of barbed wire in the passenger area, and weld it in. This way they will only hurt themselves in a wreck and they won't be distracted by a passenger telling them to "Look at that "HOTTIE" in the camaro next to them, causing an accident. Buy them a pass for unlimited time at the local go-cart track. That way they will learn how to handle the truck if it gets out of control. MAke sure the truck doesn;t have a straight body panel on it, so their friends won;t ride in it, no matter how many coats they pile on the barbed wire.

This is GOOD sound advice. No joking here. SERIOUSLY!
