car shows and info given at them

i recently had my car in a small car show and i was concerned about the address part as i'm sure some envious types may consider coming by and having my 45 put into action. but seriously has anyone had any problems with car shows or afterwards and is this the norm for them to ask for this info and put it on a piece of paper and display it on the dash? just wanted to know, i left the address blank but was just concerned and didn't want any issues with theft or vandals.

Depends on where you live.

If your a high theft GN area like Jersey, South Florida I would not advertise it.

I would say town is OK or leave it blank.

Remember a good thief can just run your plates & find it out.

my neck of the woods

isn't the best neighborhood. we do have a good steel fence up with a closing door but still i didn't feel safe to advertise where the car would be parked most of the time as i don't drive it daily. it normally sits in the back of the driveway, with 2 cars behind it so you cannot drive it if you get passed the alarm.

I usually just put "New Mexico" on the address portion.

Normally, the only address info I see on cars that is publicly displayed is the city & state. Now on the registration form, the show reps ask for a full address. This is so they can send you info on upcoming events. At least that's why the club I used to be in gathered that info.

As already said, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If someone wants your car bad enough, they will have a tag run or find other means to attempt to get it.

I'm a car show judge at Englishtown Raceway Park and we use a two-sided window card that the owner can leave either on the dash or under the wiper.

The car info with owner's name is on the front side and address is on the back. Most participants just leave the back blank for privacy reasons of course.

I'd like to think that most people that attend shows are decent folks who enjoy cars and not someone who is "shopping" for something to steal later on.
